Real World Rewards in Real Life: Course Hero’s Business Plan Competition

Entrepreneurship Learning Path BadgeIn early May, we announced a unique opportunity for those who complete our Entrepreneurship Path.

The idea is simple, but the rewards are limitless: we wanted to give students who took the initiative to expand their entrepreneurial education a unique opportunity to go a step further. We invited all students who complete Course Hero’s Entrepreneurship Path to submit a business plan and compete to pitch their idea to angel investment firm, SV Angel. The winner also receives $5,000 to turn his or her business into a reality.

According to a recent analysis of government data conducted for The Associated Press, about 53% of bachelor’s degree-holders under the age of 25 last year were jobless or underemployed, the highest share in at least 11 years. We believe that taking the Entrepreneurship coursework and going through the exercise of completing a business plan shows the type of initiative and application of a real world skill-set that will make employers take notice and help differentiate a candidate in today’s competitive job landscape.

With two core courses and five electives, the Entrepreneurship Path presents the best freely available content in a format that allows you to learn at the pace that suits you. While quizzes and exams are built into our courses, we feel it’s important to us to give our Entrepreneurship students the chance to test the skills learned in our courses in a real world context. Developing a compelling business plan is a chance to demonstrate mastery of the material.

We are excited to see how the contest has progressed in the past five weeks, and are even more excited to see where it will go in the next two. Submit your business plan through CourseHero.com by 11:59 pm PST on June 30, 2012 and turn your classroom assignment into a boardroom dream.

What kind of business would you like to develop? Leave a reply in the comments section below, or engage with us on Twitter and Facebook and we’ll get back to you.
