Identifying Management Competencies (3) A lecture and discussion course focusing on the identification and development of competencies requisite for effective program management, including discussion of the management of ideas, material, people, and processes and their interrelationships. Letter grade only (A-F). III. Expected Outcomes Students successfully completing this course will be able to: 1. Examine various management theories and practices and use them as a basis for formulating their management philosophy and style. 2. Analyze the several philosophies of leadership and supervision in order to formulate their personal philosophy. 3. Describe the human resource development process, including selection, development, and evaluation; 4. Develop effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills necessary for effective supervision. 5. Describe the interrelationships among the community, the agency, staff, and educational institutions. 6. Describe the process of policy development and implementation as it affects the student s professional area. 7. Describe the process of program planning and operation, including budgeting and facilities planning; and 8. Conduct a self-evaluation of leadership capabilities. II. IV.
