list Check for laboratory notebook (Due date: Apr 23) Lab 6: Package Integrity Introduction The importance of package integrity Why it is more important in flexible and semi-rigid packaging than rigid packaging (i.e. metal cans and glass bottles) Objecti ves Materials and methods (You may print the procedure from the end of this document and paste it into your report) Results and discussion Microbiological Integrity Testing Chamber Explain why the traditional testing method (submersion in microbial solution) does not work for this particular package. Briefly describe the test protocol for the integrity testing of 2L paper/plastic laminated aseptic brik pack. Electrolytic package test Principle of the test What is the result that indicates the leakage in the package Ink test Principle of the test What is the result that indicates the leakage in the package ARO-Test-A-Pak vacuum bubble tester Principle of the test What indicates the location of the leakage Carleton Test-A-Pak Principle of burst test and leak What test kind of results you get from burst test and creep test (pressure or pass/fail) Aseptic brik pack rip down Briefly describe the process of ripping down the package as far as what you did in the lab. You do not need to write the whole procedure. Conclusion: Write based on your objectives Materials and Methods 1. Listen to a lecture about Microbiological Integrity Testing Chamber for integrity testing of 2L paper/plastic laminated aseptic brik pack. 2. Aseptic package integrity a. Electrolytic package test a nd ink test was performed on a half of an aseptic brik pack to find carton with pinhole b. ARO-Test-A-Pak vacuum bubble tester was used to test the integrity of an aseptic brik pack and a snack bag. c. Carleton Test-A-Pak was used to test a snack bag and an aseptic thermoformed package. The burst and creep test was performed on a snack bag and the creep test was performed on an aseptic thermoformed package. d. An aseptic brik pack was ripped down according to the instruction provided in the laboratory handout.
