4328 Finance Fall 2001 Very good teacher. I would recommend this class to my peers actually enjoys what he teaches. class is interesting. I dislike Dr. xxxx & xxxx people. I enjoyed this class and the manner in which it was taught overall. However, I would feel more prepared if there was more time spent explaining homework problems in class. I simply did not have the time to utilize office hours like many other students may have. Dr. English is definitely knowledgeable in the subject. He does a good job of presenting the material and truly cares about us learning it. However, his cocky arrogant attitude in class occasionally gets in the way of learning. Fantastic professor, one of the best. Material was really heavy and expectations on exam exceeded my learning capabilities. Most effective teacher; only complaint is tests are too long for the amount of time given. It is disappointing to lose points on a test because I ran out of time, when you know the information. Dr. English is probably one of the best instructors I have had at Tech. He cares about his students and is determined to make sure we learn and gain more knowledge about international finance. If all the teachers in COBA were like Dr. English, the education would be a lot better. Best teacher I will ever have. Dr. English does a great job, it's obvious he enjoys what he does. Always enjoy the class wish there were 2 exams before the final. I really enjoyed this class. I also liked the way you administered the test. I think that we acutally learned the material. Thanks, I hope I don't have to see you again. Good knowledge of material, methodical style of teaching "book come to life". I feel very prepared for a career in International business. Thanks! Phil is a great teacher. He cares about his students and takes time in class & outside of class to help. The only problems I faced in this class was not getting a good fundamental base in my first classes. Quizzes on a weekly basis definitely kept me constantly concentrated on the material. Felt that the study sessions for tests were very effective. Also strongly agree with structure of tests. Very knowledgeable, very effective teacher. Dr. English is an awesome person and teacher. If I had taken better advantage of that I would have definitely gotten an "A". He made hard material seem quite easy and understandable. Tests were fair. But not easy. You had to study well and know the material. The essay tests are really hard but he allows us to get extra points through quizzes and homework which is very helpful. He is a very good teacher because he makes sure the students understand the material. Dr. English is a hard teacher, but very effective. In certain finance classes I feel cheated, like I don't learn, but I do learn in Phil's class. This is the second time I've had him, because of this reason. My B in this class is much more meaningful to me than an A in other classes. I like that Dr. English challenges us to think on a deeper level and refuses to give us anything that we haven't earned. I feel that given the complexity of the material, the instructor did repeat the problems enough. Also, there were not enough problems with their solutions, available to effectively practice and learn the problems. Dr. English did a very good job of making sure that everyone understood. He makes himself available a lot so that students can come by. My only suggestion would be to pass back graded work more often. Dr. English is the first instructor at Tech who actually voluntarily made himself available to his students. Having him for a teacher has made this semester the most effective semester I have had in the 3 years I have been here. Instructor did an excellent job explaining material in an interesting way. You are a good teacher and I enjoyed the class. I like that you made yourself available to students during inconvenient hours for professors. I also like that you teach a topic until students understand - you make them learn, which is better than I can say for most profs. More emphasis on specific things we need to know would help me. I liked the fact that you care about us, and that you are willing to go the extra to mile help us understand the material. Dr. English was a very effective instructor. The only problem I had with the class was grading was too heavily weighed on two tests. I wish the test would have had some short-answer or something else in addition to the essay questions. The material in this class can be difficult but I felt it was presented in a way that could be more understood than the book and I appreciated the extra time outside of class for help sessions. I think that Dr. English is an extremely brilliant individual, but I could tell, not ever having him before, that it was favorable to already have a relationship with him. I felt sometimes like he would answer my question more to get me off his back, than to help me learn, because I was not someone he know already. The material was very difficult. Dr. English did his best, but I cannot get this class. It has been a bad experience. This is the first time in college that I have felt helpless in terms of actually learning the material. Your a great teacher and I enjoyed the class, but sometimes you present information at too difficult of a level. On the tests the questions seemed to be more difficult than we had learned so far. I know you are trying to push us, but sometimes it was a little too much that's why grades were not very good. English is well informed of current events. It has been a hard semester to focus on class due to 9-11. Hopefully he will be understandable on grades. He works hard, but extra classes are useless to people that can't make them, and it punishes those students. I enjoyed the course, but would have liked it if there were more scoring opportunities and if the review material was narrowed down more for the exams. I didn't think the tests reflected what I knew. The material was complex, and sometimes I felt Dr. English assumed we knew more than we did. Otherwise, he did a great job. Was a hard class but enjoyed another perspective with money and market issues internationally. Exams were difficult but fair. Didn't like the text hard to understand, and get main concepts from. Dr. English is honestly the best professor I have ever had. He makes time for his students for his class as well as for others. He understands that the material is challenging and adjusts his level of teaching to our level of knowledge. Dr. English really know what he is teaching and explains everything in depth. He is always available for us outside of class and helps us out by giving review sessions a few nights before our t...
