Course Description: The study of the basic principles of ecology as they relate to the general Health of society; we will look at topics such as (present) conditions of soil, water, air, etc., nationally and globally. We will also view several videotapes on the tops covered during lecture and class discussion. Also, guest speaker(s) will be invited to class to discuss respective areas of environmental expertise such as the EPA, the Sierra Club, etc. Course Learning Goals, Objectives: The student will be able to: Demonstrate knowledge of terms related to ecology and the protection and conversation of the environment. Describe, in writing and orally, a specific health concern related to ecology. Apply appropriate health care techniques to specific environmental health concerns. Analyze and logically determine how serious the state of the environment actually is . . . Specific Course Requirement with descriptions 1. Quizzes: (number and type):10 @ 5 pts. Each (unannounced) 2. Examinations: (number and type): 3 @ 100 pts. each 3. Final Examination: Final Exam Comprehensive 4. Other Graded Assignments (Homework/Projects/Labs/Research Papers): 10 articles @ 5 pts each (to be assigned weekly) 5. Missed Exams, Quizzes, and Make Up Work: N/A 6. Grading Format Weighting/Point Value of Assignments and Examinations: 3 exams@100 pts each = 300 pts. 10 articles @ 5 pts. Each = 50 points. Total 400 pts. A = 358 400, B = 318 357, C = 278 317, D = 238 277, F = 237 & below. Final Review Week A period of five class days prior to the first day of final examinations in the long sessions shall be designated as Final Review Week. The purpose of this week is to allow students sufficient time to prepare for final examinations. During this week, there shall be no scheduled activities such as required field trips or performances; and no instructor shall assign any themes, research problems or exercises of similar scope that have a completion date during or following this week unless specified in the class syllabi. . During Final Review Week, an instructor shall not give any examinations constituting 10% or more of the final grade, except makeup tests and laboratory examinations. In addition, no instructor shall give any portion of the final examination during Final Review Week.
