TRACT IDENTIFIER: 063-50 COUNTY: Kit Carson LOCATION: The Kit Carson County #50 State Land Tract is located in the northwest quadrant of Kit Carson County approximately 7.0 miles east of the town of Seibert. Interstate 70 lies 0.5 miles to the south of the parcel while State Highway 59 lies 7.0 miles to the west. The Rock Island and Pacific Railroad passes through the southern portion of the property. OVERVIEW OF GEOLOGY: Surfical deposits mapped on the Kit Carson County #50 State Land Tract include the following (Sharps, 1980): Qp Peoria Loess (Pleistocene Pinedale and Bull Lake Glaciations) This unit consists of brown, wind-blown, sandy silt and fine sand up to 120 feet thick. OIL AND GAS RESOURCES: No oil or gas wells have been drilled on this tract. The closest exploratory well to this State tract is over three miles away. Several wells drilled in the area tested reservoirs as deep as the Lower Ordovician Arbuckle. All were dry holes. Occasionally a well drilled in this central part of the County will see a slight show of oil or gas. That is not the case in this township. The essential elements for oil gas and do exist in the area, but geological control is insufficient to determine a local trap. COAL RESOURCES: This tract contains no coal resources. METALLIC MINERAL RESOURCES: This tract contains no metallic mineral resources. INDUSTRIAL MINERALS AND CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS RESOURCES: In addition to the one occurring on the parcel, five sand and gravel pits are located within a 5.0 mile radius of the Kit Carson County #50 State Land Tract. The closest of these lies 2.0 miles to the north-northeast of the property (see figure); the host is the Tertiary Ogallala Formation. Identified Sand and Gravel Resources: This tract contains no sand and gravel resources.
