Hungary will receive Ft 10 billion in EU central funds after May 1 for upgrading border infrastructure to meet the requirements the of new Schengen information system. Hungary is scheduled to join the Schengen system for a pilot period of a few months in mid-2006, with membership starting on Jan. 1, 2007. To prevent speculative trading, the EU cut off export subsidies for most agricultural exports to the accession countries last week. The Hungarian Agriculture Ministry will take measures to prevent speculation within the borders.
