World Bank gives Croatia $156m loan ZAGREB - The Croatian government and the World Bank have signed a 156-million-dollar (138-million-euro) loan agreement for improvement of transport links in the northern Adriatic port of Rijeka, national radio reports. The Rijeka gateway project is expected to increase Croatia's trade competitiveness by improving freight and passenger travel, notably through modernizing the port and road network connections. The loan agreement signed was in Rijeka by Finance Minister Mato Crkvenac, the head of the World Bank's department for central and eastern Europe, Andrew Vorkink, and representatives of three companies for which the loan was intended the Rijeka port administration, Croatian Highways and Croatian Roads. The loan has a term of 15 years with a five-year grace period. The Rijeka gateway project is expected to be completed by 2009.
