Don Morrison Laura Frieder Ph.D. Candidate in Finance Donald G. Morrison Professor of Marketing and Prior to entering the Doctoral Program, Laura had earned degrees in economics and mathematics and completed internships with Banc One, the Phoenix Suns and ASM Lithography. Her research interests include behavioral finance and asset pricing. Under the guidance of Professors Richard Roll and Avanidhar Subrahmanyam, her dissertation will focus on contagion in the corporate bond market. Professor Morrison holds the William E. Leonhard Chair in Management. Recently, he was honored as the 2002 recipient of the American Marketing Association McGraw-Hill/Irwin Distinguished Marketing Educator of the Year Award. . Garrett Sonnier Ph.D. Candidate in Marketing Garrett holds degrees in agricultural economics, and resource economics and policy. His work experience includes a position in the strategic planning department at Toyota Motor Sales, USA, where he was involved in the application of discrete choice economic models to the study of new vehicle pricing. His current research interests include the decomposition of estimated coefficients in discrete choice models, as well as the study of spatial effects in new product diffusion. . Mentoring at Anderson Walter N. Torous Professor of Finance Zainab Jamal Ph.D. Candidate in Marketing Bruno Miranda Ph.D. Candidate in Finance Professor Torous is the director of the Ziman Center for Real Estate at The Anderson School. Zainab earned degrees in economics and business administration prior to entering the Doctoral Program at Anderson. At UCLA, Zainab s courses include game theory, systems models, general equilibrium and welfare economics, as well as courses in social psychology and behavioral research in marketing. Bruno s research interests are in asset pricing. The foundation for his research includes graduate courses in mathematics, economics and finance, and a prior degree in economics. He is currently working with Professor Pedro Santa-Clara on a research project. . Doctoral students are eager to become what you are already, a professor and a researcher. What could be more flattering and rewarding? Richard Roll Richard W. Professor Roll of Finance Professor Roll holds the Japan Alumni Chair in International Finance. . Mariko Sakakibara Mariko Sakakibara Associate Professor of Policy Professor Sakakibara teaches courses at The Anderson School in strategy and international business. Her most recent book, Can Japan Compete?, is co-authored with Michael E. Porter and Hirotaka Takeuchi. . Tatsuo Ushijima Ph.D. Candidate in International Business & Policy Murat Bayiz Ph.D. Candidate in Tatsuo is a recipient of the 2002-03 UCLA Dissertation Year Fellowship. Research for his dissertation, The Evolution of Multinationality and the Value of the Firm, is under the guidance and direction of Professors Marvin Lieberman and Mariko Sakakibara. Murat s course work at The Anderson School is focused on combinatorial and stochastic optimization. His current research efforts include inventory system management policies for rental equipment under the guidance of Professor Tang and optimal blood screening strategies for HIV and HCV under the guidance of Professor Pierskalla. Prior to entering the Doctoral Program, Murat earned degrees in industrial engineering and did consultant work for various companies including Wells Fargo Bank, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Qualcomm, Compaq, Qwest and Neutrogena. . Mentoring at Anderson The Ph.D. Program is a research apprenticeship in which faculty mentor students in order to develop their research capabilities to the highest level. David Lewin David Lewin Professor of Professor Lewin holds the Neil Jacoby Chair in Management and is the academic unit head for the area at The Anderson School. . Jean-Francois Coget Ph.D. Candidate in Ping Wang Ph.D. Candidate in Information Systems J.F. s research interests focus on the impact of the Internet on interpersonal relationships. He is currently working with the UCLA Center for Communications Policy. His background includes an education in economics and business, and work experience with the French Embassy in Portugal, and Morgan Stanley and Ernst & Young in Paris. A former consultant to Lockheed Martin and financial analyst with Hughes Electronics, Ping s current research interests include the study of new information technologies as organizational innovations. His research is focused on the processes by which organizations comprehend, adopt, implement and assimilate new information technology.
