Extraversion: talkative, outgoing, active, likes meeting new people Three facets of extroversion Gregariousness: W score slightly higher than M Activity: M score slightly higher than W Assertiveness: M score moderately higher than W Five Factor Model 2. Agreeableness Trust: cooperation, benefit of the doubt, and viewing others as basically good. Tender-mindedness: nurturing, empathy for others, sympathetic to others W substantially more trusting and tender-minded. Smiling: women smile more often than men Five Factor Model 3. Conscientiousness Refers to preparedness or having things in order Overall, M and W score essentially the same. Order- referring to organization, cleanliness Women score slightly higher Five Factor Model 4. Emotional Stability (please note we are NOT referring to this as Neuroticism): This is a person's tendency to experience emotions negative Anxiety: unpleasant, high arousal emotional state W score higher on anxiety than M Impulsiveness: inability to inhibit responses M and W are virtually identical Five Factor Model 5. Openness to Experience Range of thoughts or concepts a person entertains from conventional and down to earth to imaginative and creative. M and W are virtually the same on this facet Vocational Interests: People/Things The nature of vocational interests "things" prefer vocations with impersonal items. "people" prefer social occupations M score more on the "things" end W score more on the "people" end Femininity vs. Masculinity Masculinity: dimension that reflected assertiveness, boldness, dominance, self-sufficiency Femininity: dimension that reflected nurturance, expression of emotions, and empathy Androgyny: those that scored high on both Sex Roles Revised Personality Characteristics: Janet Spence Instrumentality: Working with objects, direct completion of tasks, independence, self-sufficiency Expressiveness: The ease with which one can express emotion, show empathy and nurturance
