and Refugee Immigration Services (ESL Instructor) Shepherd Poverty Alliance Job Description Purpose of the Agency/Organization: To assist the resettlement staff in providing social adjustment, mentoring and employment services to refugee clients. The purpose of this position is to teach English to refugee adults. Job Title of Position: English as Second Language (ESL) Instructor Expectations/Responsibilities of the Position: Develop curriculum for own classes (optional) Teach ESL to an individual and/or in small groups of adults Perform evaluations on students progress. Fill-in if other instructors cannot teach scheduled class. Assist with documentation of ESL Summer Programs and student s progress Qualifications: Interest in teaching English Problem solving skills Cross-cultural sensitivity and Flexibility patience Foreign language skills helpful, but not necessary Driver s license and own transportation STRONGLY recommended Working Conditions: Independently in refugee home or public building with consultation provided as often as needed On-Site Supervisors: Education Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator Supervisor Plan: Bi-weekly meetings Preparation: Volunteer Orientation and ESL Workshop to explain background information on cultures and methods of teaching ESL will be provided. Additional Comments: This experience may serve as a springboard for a career in ESL.
