SPEECH TO ACTUATE OR POLICY SPEECH We expect that this will be your best presentation so far. You have worked on the organization of speech presentations and on your deliveries. Now you should be able to blend the two together to come up with your finest effort! Persuasive speech: Policy Speech or Speech to Actuate. 1. Pick a topic that you have some feeling about. Be willing to research both sides or all sides of the issue if it is a controversial topic The &quot;best&quot; topics are the ones that the audience can relate to in some way. YOU need to care about the topic and make the AUDIENCE care about the topic. You need to convince them that something SHOULD be either done, or not done. If you have a speech to actuate, you need to MOTIVATE them to take the requested action. Most, if not all, of your speeches will fit a PROBLEM/SOLUTION pattern of organization. Please pay particular attention to Monroe's Motivated Sequence of Persuasion. This will help you tremendously in helping you decide what must be included in your speech and what can be left out. 2. grade. Each speech should be 8-9 minutes in length. This one is worth 25% of your 3. Each speech should have at least five citations and at least five bibliographic references. You should use the Library Gateway to weed out bogus sources. Wikipedia is a good place for general information, but it is not considered one of your five sources. This gives you enough time to make revisions and to rehearse your speech. (There will be special consideration given to those going the first day.) Late outlines will receive a five-point grade deduction for each day it is late. 6. Remember, this is a persuasive speech. Your information must be presented in a persuasive manner! Include persuasive appeals. Make sure that you attempt to make the audience care and relate to what you are talking about. Make your audience FEEL what you are saying. Your audience can feel something, only if you show that you have feelings for your topic.
