Institute Rochester of Technology Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences Department of Information Technology 4002-208 Introduction to Programming [in C++] Project 5 A Taxing Assignment Problem Statement You are to write a program to produce a payroll report for hourly employees. For each employee, the program computes weekly gross wage, FICA tax, federal tax, and weekly net wage. The rules for computing the weekly gross wage FICA tax, federal tax and weekly net wage are the same as Lab 7. The weekly gross wage is the hours times the hourly rate plus an overtime bonus (50%) for all hours over 40. The number of hours must be between 0 and 56, inclusively. The hourly rate must be between 6.55 and 25.00, inclusively. The FICA tax is 7.65% of the weekly gross wage. The Federal Income Tax is based on the weekly gross wage. The U.S. Federal Tax Policy is called a progressive tax plan, that is, the tax rate is higher on the last dollar than the first dollar. First, calculate the annual gross wage by multiplying the weekly gross wage by 52. The annual adjusted gross wage is the annual gross wages minus the standard deduction of $5,450 [standard single filer deduction]. Use the annual adjusted gross wage in the following table to compute the annual federal tax. The weekly federal tax is the annual federal tax divided by 52. Annual Adjusted Gross Wage Less than 8025 8025 or higher but less than 32,550 32,550 and higher Annual Federal Tax 10% of annual adjusted gross wage $802.50 + 15% of annual adjusted gross wage over 8025 $4481.25 + 25% of annual adjusted gross wage over 32,550 For example, if the annual adjusted gross wage is 25,000, the annual federal tax is 802.50 + 0.15 * (25,000 8025). The net weekly wage is the weekly gross wage minus the FICA tax and minus the federal tax. After weekly net wage has been calculated for all employees, print the total weekly gross wage, the total FICA taxes, the total federal taxes and total weekly wage. 4002-208 Page 1 of 3 Fall 20081 Project 5 Requirements 1. You must use the project feature of Dev-Cpp. See Submission section. 2. You must use the generalized input routines that were develop in class (readDouble, etc.). You will find them in the Week 08 module in the Day 16 Sample Programs Including Files. Using them will save you time! Add the implementation file myInput.cpp to your project. Include the header file myInput.h your in program. 3. Since the computation for the weekly hourly wage, FICA tax, and federal tax is the same as Lab 7, your must create an implementation file tax.cpp with these three functions and add it to your project. Again, using them will save you time! Create the header file tax.h with the function prototypes for these functions and include it in your program. 4. Read the number of employees using the appropriate generalized input function. 5. Since this project is emphasizing passing arrays as parameters, you must call functions from your main function with array parameters to complete the following tasks: Read in the hours worked and hourly rates for all employees Calculate the weekly gross wages for all employees Calculate the FICA tax for all employees Calculate the Federal tax for all employee Calculate the weekly net wage for all employees Print the table with the wage information for each employee The functions written for Lab 7 are very helpful here. For example, the function to compute the FICA tax for all employees can call the function to calculate the FICA tax for one employee. With a loop, the FICA tax can be calculated for all employees. 6. Hint: for the above methods one of the parameters will need to be the number of employees. 7. Remember that each element of the array is a primitive. For example, the 0th element of the array with weekly gross wage can be used as a parameter to calculate the fica tax for one employee. 8. Most of the above functions will be very short. 9. You must print the two number bars (01234) above the summary table in order to the have the columns aligned exactly as in the sample solution. Submission You must submit a zip file for this project. The zip file must include the following: All header files (.h) All C++ files (.cpp) A project file (.dev) Do not submit .exe file as it is much larger than the other files. There is no problem if you submit the .layout, .o or .win files. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK THE FILES IN YOUR ZIP FILE BEFORE YOU SUBMIT. DO IT CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME. The on-time submission deadline is Friday, November 7th at 11:59 PM. The late deadline is Sunday, November 9th at 11:59 PM. The late penalty is 5 points per day. 4002-208 Page 2 of 3 Fall 20081 Project 5 Sample Output: Note: the number bar was printed above to help you align your output exactly as above. 4002-208 Page 3 of 3 Fall 20081
