McCurdy Caitlin Corporal Punishment: A Religious Conflict? How does one's outlook on corporal punishment coincide with one's religious belief as a Christian? In the modern world today, we are continuing to be bombarded increasingly more to resolve to the scientific and psychological views of discipline as our basis of faith in corporal punishment. As Christians, it is vital to develop our own beliefs and convictions of where we stand in the matter of corporal punishment, and by firmly doing so remain devoted to the scripture and our beliefs, regardless of the conflict brought forth by the pressuring world we live in, or we will merely become another Christian who conforms to the considered norm of our culture today. Throughout the scripture, we are continually taught the proper way to approach the issue of corporal punishment for children, more specifically in Proverbs. The context we are given simply states that our responsibly with children is not just nurturing them, but correcting them as well. God instructs us to punish children a in corporal manner to bring forth love, hope, wisdom, and deliverance from foolish behavior. Our society as a whole has stopped looking to the absolute truth of the matter, God's Word, and has continued to develop its own interpretations of inaccurate truth. Christians and non-Christians alike are coming up with the solution that the biblical views on corporal punishment are no longer accurate and considered impractical today. We are told in Hebrews 4:12 that the Word of God is powerful and alive, meaning that it is relevant for all ages, past, present and future. As believers in Christ, we are called to remain faithful to the scripture and in doing so, will we stand up for the truth we know as valid? Christians, we need to come to basis with our beliefs and what we stand for. The question being presented is whether or not we will choose to remain faithful to God and pursue His teaching and clear instruction on corporal punishment, or adhere to the world and its irrelevant belief of corporal punishment for children.
