For 25+ years, Jim has been a successful global business executive, Human Resources leader, business consultant, teacher/trainer/university instructor, and respected public speaker, skilled in translating business needs into pragmatic human and organizational solutions. Often called upon to facilitate corporation change, to lead professional workshops, and to speak at national conferences, Jim currently teaches HR, management, international business, globalization, and leadership courses within the School of Business at Alverno College, with a particular emphasis on `Women and Leadership' and on the new, unique Alverno MBA program as part of the MBA design team, and teaching the lead course on Strategy each semester. Concurrently with his teaching, as President of Global HR Business Solutions, Jim consults with diverse business clients, most recently including WE Energies, Froedtert Memorial Hospital, the Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services, and the Milwaukee Women's Center. Jim focuses on helping organizations achieve enhanced corporate value and competitive advantage through their unique human capital and organizational capability. Major assignments have included organizational transformation, strategic planning, corporate culture, employee satisfaction & organizational climate, executive coaching, leadership training/development, staffing/recruiting, employee & labor relations. As a member of Fortune 100 global executive teams, Jim designed, led & facilitated globally benchmarked best practice programs, highlighted in David Ulrich's global best-selling book, "HR Champions: Adding Value & Delivering Results". He has significant, hands-on company, industry and HR leadership experience in high tech, healthcare, financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing, consumer goods, energy, public sector, and business consulting within both unionized and non-unionized environments. Jim's global career has included senior HR executive roles with Research In Motion, International Multifoods, Frontier Corporation / Rochester Tel, Gulf Oil, and UPS. As a dual US/Canadian citizen, Jim has traveled extensively internationally in his business career, including living/working in South Korea, and being a member of both the Alverno Asian Studies Initiative and the Alverno Latin American Studies Initiative. As such, Jim is an active contributor the to `internationalization' of Alverno's liberal arts and business curriculum. In 2005, Jim was invited to join the Advisory Council to Wisconsin's Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton, for her internationally recognized initiative, Wisconsin Women Equal Prosperity (WW=P). In addition to being a faculty member with Alverno's Research Center for Women and Girls, Jim contributed to the Alverno team researching and writing the first-ever "Status of Girls in Wisconsin" Report, published in the summer of 2007 in partnership with the Wisconsin Women's Council and the Women's Fund of Greater Milwaukee. Jim has a long track record of commitment to, volunteer service with, and more recently facilitating `community engagement' processes for diverse nonprofit, and community service organizations across Canada and the U.S., including Board memberships, fundraising, and volunteer management for the United Way, AIDS/HIV service agencies, COMPEER (a national mental health advocacy and support organization in Rochester, NY), the Calgary Stampede Board, and his neighborhood community associations. Most recently, Jim facilitated the strategic planning process for the Board of the Milwaukee Women's Center, and in 2007 was invited to join the Board of Directors of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee, for which he is now Vice President 2008-10. Jim is highly dedicated to and actively engaged in the betterment and development of women in diverse leadership roles - especially through his focus on and specialty in 'Women and Leadership'. Jim regularly facilitates `leadership story' workshops, including Alverno student/alumnae panelists, about "The Applied Use of Abilities-Based `Storytelling' in the Development of Women as Effective Leaders and Activist Global Citizens" for example, at the 2007 National Women's Studies Association (NWSA) conference, and at the 2008 Global Studies Conference. Jim earned both his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and his BA Honors (History) degrees from Queen's University, in Kingston, Ontario. Jim has also taught in the School's of Business at Queen's University and the University of Calgary. A certified men's and women's ice hockey referee at the high school and NCAA collegiate levels, an avid cyclist, and an active participant in a variety of other athletic, extracurricular, and community activities and organizations, Jim is also the proud father of two grown children.
