Grant Research Fall 2008 Title or Proposal: AMERICAN VOICES, VOLUME 3 (CD PROJECT) Faculty member: DR. RICHARD ZIELINSKI Unit: Music Abstract: The funding I have requested will be used to support the continuation of a choral series of CD recordings by the Richard Zielinski Singers that specifically focuses on choral music by Contemporary American; American Voices, Volume 3. The American Voices CD Series will strive to promote the University of South Florida, the College of Visual and Performing and School of Music as leaders in the field of choral music, making our USF choral program competitive with other Research 1 institutions in the United States. Go to www.RichardZielinski.com for more information on the Richard Zielinski Singers. Proposal: It is my objective to develop and sustain an annual choral music series of CD recordings by a professional/paid chorus (the Richard Zielinski Singers) that will focus on choral music of contemporary American composers. These annual recordings will assist in promoting American choral music while intensifying research in the graduate choral program within the unit, the University of South Florida, School of Music. The outline below describes this proposal to produce American Voices, Volume 3: 1) recruit and audition the musicians; 2) organize dates of rehearsals and concerts; 3) organize dates of recording sessions; 4) research and select, through personal interviews with American composers, a list of the contemporary American repertoire which will be on the CD American Voices, Volume 3. If this project is funded in full and the following schedule is implemented, American Voices, Volume 3 will be released in September 2009. 1) List of Musicians (auditioned) The Richard Zielinski Singers Soprano I Julie Brumbuck Nicole Estima Katherine Laursen Elizabeth Nelson Ruthie Nelson Soprano II Dolly Andrews Charissa Denham Carter Mindy Jenny Diamond Kari Hamada Debbie Renfroe Alto I Elizabeth Althoff Cathy Griffin Tanya Lewis Valerie Smith Irene Vazul Alto II Fran Coburn Debbie Collins Alison Graham Becky Groomes Elizabeth Roth Shenita Washington Tenor I Brad Diamond Michael Peacock Bill Renfroe Kurt Richter Jeff Welch Tenor II Scott Brown James Collins Ian Gill David Groomes Ron Haynes Bass I Jason Burke Jay Clayton John Davis Donal Duffy Matt Stenberg Bass II Justin Havard Joe Discenza Ryan Hostler Vlad Markov Joel Mercer Alex Smith 2) Rehearsals and Performance Schedule (venues and concerts secured) American Voices The Richard Zielinski Singers in Concert Nov 4, 15, 2008, Rehearse Nov 16, 2008, Concert The Palladium Theatre FMEA-Florida Music Educators Association Convention - Tampa January 4, 8, 2009, Rehearse January 9, 2009 (Fri) Tampa Convention Center The Richard Zielinski Singers in Concert January 11, 2009, Concert Seminole Presbyterian Church The Richard Zielinski Singers in Concert February 20, 22, 2009, Concert Wesley Chapel Performing Arts Center The Richard Zielinski Singers in Concert March 21, 2009, Rehearse March 22, 2009, Concert First Presbyterian Church 3) Recording Sessions for American Voice, Volume 3 March 24, 27, 28, 2009 St. Marks Episcopal Church 4) List of American Composers and Selected Repertoire for American Voice, Volume 3 Tracks Title Composer 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Song of Democracy The Mystic Trumpeter God So Loved the World Balm in Gilead Alleluia In Praise Ave Maria Howard Hansen Norman Dello Joio Daniel Moe Alice Parker Randall Thompson Stephen Paulus Morton Lauridsen 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 It Is Well With My Soul Hosanna to Son of David A Clear Midnight Seal Lullaby Water Night Acrostic Song Homeward Bound The Ol' Chisholm Trail Jason Burke Daniel Moe Rand Snell Eric Whitacre Eric Whitacre David Del Tredici Jay Althouse Libby Larsen
