My Introduction name is Robert Freeman, but most people call me Matt. I am from Hanover, NH (where Dartmouth College is located). I am due to graduate next December/January as I'm taking a 9th semester. In my time at Cornell, I rowed on the lightweight rowing team and worked as an EMT for Cornell EMS. Currently, I am involved as a leader in my fraternity. I attended boarding school in Exeter, NH, and I chose Cornell because I did not want to go to college in an urban environment. I came to Cornell with the intent to study biology. It took me a bit of time to realize that the Arts and Science biology program at Cornell wasn't for me. I dabbled in psychology before discovering that I really liked economics. I have 4 summers of research experience in a laboratory at Dartmouth College. I worked with a variant of knockout mouse that is a transgenic model for human cardiovascular disease. I spent last summer living in Ithaca and I worked in a sleep laboratory, and took a class which was moderately enjoyable. I hope to work to either attend law school, work in the finance industry, work as a journalist, or work in the business world. My interests vary, but due to my risk adverse personality most people consider me to be fairly sedate as compared to the average college guy. I tend to be fairly conservative when it comes to politics and even more general social issues. Some of my friends would consider me pessimistic when it comes to the situation that our country is in. Most people are surprised when they find that I am concerned about the environment. My interest mostly stems from my interest in cars and the automotive industry. I am concerned about what the new standards CAFE will do to the prices of cars for the average consumer. I worked last summer as an intern for an online marketing company. I wrote articles for a website that summarized as much news as I could gather about alternative energy in the automotive industry. I also wrote about new technology developments as they emerged. It's an interest that I've thought a fair amount on, and I look forward to a more formalized treatment of the various issues that our society will surely have to face sooner than most would hope. To me, sustainable development means an appreciation for the facts, a less selfish attitude by most, and social incentives that foster programs that at healthy for ourselves, our children, our families, our nation and our world.
Intro Email: Hey Guys, Robert Freeman here. I am excited to be in the class and I'm hoping to have a fun semester. Stuff is going ok so far. I am familiarizing myself with the format of this course's blackboard site. I have used blackboard before, but I have not embarked on an online class before. My interest in sustainable development comes from my interest in the automotive industry. Having worked for an online marketing company last summer, I got to write for a website that covered alternative energy and its effect on the automotive industry. I got a chance to learn a bit about the technology that's involved, as well as some of the social issues facing consumers in the United States as well as around the globe. I look forward to learn more so I can apply what I've
