ELD Lesson Plan Guide Sheet Title: Provide a name for the lesson that sums up the learning. Using a catchy title increases chances of students remembering the learning at a future date. Level: Cite grade level &/or language level. (Language level as per the ELD Standards would be as follows: Beginning, Early Intermediate, Intermediate, Early Advanced, Advanced.) Purpose: A brief statement of the lesson intent. RICA Content Specification: (eg. Domain VI: Supporting Reading Through Oral and Written Language Development; 11.4 Supporting english language learners .) State Content Standard: (eg. Vocabulary & Concept Development: 1.4 Distinguish and interpret words with multiple meanings.) Materials & Resources: List or describe the various materials, tools, equipment necessary to conduct the teaching sequence. Acknowledge titles, media and other source material. Key Vocabulary or Terminology List and define each term. Select key words from the storybook you are using. Background Knowledge/Experience Accessing background knowledge and experience can take place in a variety of ways. A commonly used strategy is simply to ask students to "Think back to when you experienced....." Also, referring back to previous subject matter, "Remember when we were studying....?" Teaching Sequence: Step-by-step procedures are outlined at this point in the plan. The sequence of activities functions as the "how to" body of a lesson plan. There are two parts. Developing Meaning: apply ELD strategies to develop meaning (e.g. TPR, Real Objects, Visuals, Models, Etymologies). Developing Fluency provide a game to develop fluency with the terms (e.g. charades, matching activities, etc.) Outcome Criteria: Describe what a successful final product, or demonstration of the learning, will look like. Consider whether the outcome will be written, oral, illustrated, displayed, or some other format. Note the criteria for successfully demonstrating learning. (Often times, teacher planning begins at this point. Once a clear idea of the outcome is established, the teaching sequence and assessment components fall into place.) Example: Students will demonstrate fluency with the key terms asking questions by playing a game of "Who am I?" Evaluation: Evaluation considers the tool(s) for collection and assessment of student data (anecdotal records, tests, rubrics, ob...
