1. Abstract
eBay is the worlds largest trading community where millions of people buy and sell items every day. For buyers, this means finding great deals on all kinds of items they are interested in; from antique art pieces to computers and even to automobiles. For sellers, eBay has given them the ability to market their products to millions of daily visitors. (eBay 2004) In addition to that, it offers an efficient way to sell anything.
The way eBay works is that it is basically an online electronic auction. A seller posts an item on eBay for a number of days and is sold either through the auction format or the Buy It Now format. Auction format is the traditional bidding format. Potential buyers search for items and place bids on the ones they are interested in buying. To win the auction, the buyer must have the highest bid by the end of the duration of the auction, or use the Buy It Now function which allows them to buy it as if they were buying an item for a specified price. After the buyer has won the auction, the seller will make arrangements with the buyer for payment and shipping. (eBay 2004) The item is then paid for and shipped out, and feedback is left for the seller and the buyer.
