Information formerly stored in several places, including: CONFIG.SYS AUTOEXEC.BAT WIN.INI, and other .INI files Other config files created by applications

Registry Editing Rules:
Do not attempt to edit the registry before you:
1. make a backup.
2. can restore from a backup.
3. test the backup mechanism.

Dont edit the registry if you can make the change in a dialog box.
The GUI watches out for you but Regedit doesnt care.
