Keeps Head of Collection Development up to date on ongoing collection development activities major developments in scholarly communications in respective disciplines major developments in faculty departments which affect library budgeting or services (new/departing faculty, change of departmental direction, etc.) Communicates well with and coordinates work with fellow bibliographers/subject librarians. Communicates appropriately with IMS staff Liaison with donors: possible negotiation of gift collections Selects materials in all formats quality control timeliness pertinence balances selection, remaining open to conflicting viewpoints of faculty and in the literature but able to withstand pressures to select narrowly reviews approval plan books in a timely way (weekly) and reports needed profile changes to Head of Collection Development reviews gifts in a timely way keeps track of subject areas which need building up and/or desiderata which could not be purchased on the regular budget. Budget Regularly monitors respective materials funds (regular funds, gifts). endowments, Spaces orders/expends materials funds appropriately throughout the year (eg. 50% encumbered by Dec. 31st). All orders due in Acquisitions by March 15th. Prepares and submits requests for additional budget support: Requests for one-time funds needed for retrospective collection building or of particular materials, can be made at any time. If the project is large however, it is best to make it in the Spring while the following year's budget is being planned (March through May). Requests for permanent budget increases, should be made before the Head of Collection Development submits an initial budget request to the Dean (January). All requests should be should be submitted to the Head of Collection Development, accompanied by brief documentation, including an estimated dollar amount, how the amount was arrived at and why it is needed. Friends of the Library The Friends of the Library group usually holds an annual competition in the Spring for funds to support the purchase of library materials.
