245-101 MIS Intro. to MIS NJIT Prof. Jose C. Casal Fall 2008 Name: Carrie Ann Deis Case: 2-2 Date: 9/15/2008 Globalization can greatly benefit airline manufacturers. The most obvious benefit is being able to expand your company and thereby gain more customers. More customers mean more frequent business. Increasing the number of customers will help to fill the gaps and generate a more consistent cash flow. Information systems can help reap the benefits here by surveying what the local airlines in the area need, so that the airline manufacturers can be more customer specific with their products. Broadening the market helps diversify the manufacturers business. For example, the market for aircrafts is not in demand in the United States, but it is in countries such as China and India. Being able to have a diverse customer portfolio is very important because then the manufacturer does not go bankrupt just because the market is not doing well in one country. Information systems can come in and help manufacturers figure out the demographics of each region. This way the manufacture can move forward and be as efficient as possible with moving forward in becoming a global company. Every country goes through a technology bubble. The United States and of most Europe have already been through this stage, and now other countries are catching up. For example, China and India are moving fast in the airline business. At the moment, revenue for manufacturers from these countries has the fastest growth rate. However, this growth is not sustainable. These countries will reach a point when they have all of the planes they need, and will then only need to update them as new models come out. It s for this reason that having a diverse group of customers is so important. Every country has its growth spurt, but you cannot grow forever. Page 1 of 2 MIS 245-101 Intro. to MIS NJIT Prof. Jose C. Casal Fall 2008 A good strategy for airline manufacturers would be to be able to cater to the needs of every country. They need to be able to adapt to needs due to weather conditions and other matters. In order to go global, a company needs to be very knowledgeable about the countries they are moving into. Also, these businesses should not rely too much on one country for revenue. Every country will have a good/bad period, so by being involved in as many countries as possible eliminates the risk of bankruptcy. If thought through carefully, globalization can greatly benefit airline manufacturers. Page 2 of 2
