Last Name_________________________ First Use Internet Explorer not Netscape. SDSU's pages require Microsoft Explorer to be Briefly summarize the major points in each groups presentation. SDSU is on a semester viewed appropriately. system so not all of their projects may not be finished, just cover what is available. **If you need help, assistants in the library lab can help with downloading file or viewing the SSDU web pages.** Bring the answers to the following to the exam. 1. Briefly summarize what you learned from each project in the space below the project description. CSUBs project is discussed in the left space and SDSU in the space on the right. CSUB SDSU (1) Urban structure and changes in your area. For Bakersfield: Changes in population location (e.g. suburban movement of people, homes, churches, etc.) and business (malls and deserted downtown in Bakersfield). For Brookings, examination of downtown services in relation to outer ring superstores, new housing developments (Ex: Indian Hills) vs. old town neighborhoods and campus surround. (2) Ideal types of students at the two universities (first time college student, older returning student, single Moms structuring a career...). Use demographic information from your university and observation of your peers to create ideal types. Then create a page indicating types and short interviews with representatives. (4) Find out about your local community and describe the community in terms of: history, settlement processes, town/city origination, economic differentiation, religious affiliation, politics, social and economic divisions, etc. (3) Local and economies work. What are the economic bases of the community (agriculture, oil, etc.)? For Bakersfield: What changes are occurring (bedroom community for LA)? What is the work life of the typical people in the community (oil field worker, form worker, etc.)? For Brookings: What changes are occurring (farm consolidation)? What is the work life of the typical people in the community (service and office jobs, etc.)? For both: Find a report of economic data, interview and describe typical workers. (5) Find out about your state and describe the state in terms of: history, economic differentiation, religious affiliation, politics, social and economic divisions, etc. (6) Find out about and describe your local community in terms of what makes it a community: social organizations, power structure, and social events. 2. Now review the data from the survey done on both campuses. http://www.csubak.edu/~jross/classes/GS390/Statistics/SPSS/CSUB_SDSU/CSUB_SDSUSurv...
