(On-Line) La Pizzeria Cost Estimate Story Line: As a project manager, you have been asked to prepare a project cost summary to deploy an online order and delivery system for a local Pizzeria chain. You have the following items to help you: a three sheet spreadsheet that includes numbers for a different project.(Note: If you aren t very familiar with Excel, note that at the bottom of the provided spreadsheet you will see three tabs. Each tab is a different spreadsheet: a Overall Project Budget Sheet, a Software Development Cost Sheet, and an Expert Opinion Calculation Sheet.) While you will have to edit these sheets, you will not have to create them from scratch. You also have a WBS story line included in this document. Finally, refer to chapter 7 of your textbook and the four online Construx Function Point Analysis articles. You should presume that the project will take roughly one year to develop and release, and will be supported for three subsequent years in production. e-Pizza WBS ITEMS Cost Estimate Sheet 1. Project Management this is an overhead tax or tithe a. Project Manager Figure 100 hours at an hourly rate of $175. (Yepp, $175 per hour. See why you want to learn this material?) $175 is an average rate of all upper management, including Project Manager rate of $150/hr b. Team Members overall, 250 hours at an average rate of $85/hr 2. Hardware: a. 20 terminals will be needed: 2 per branch for the total of 10 branches. Each terminal will cost $600. b. 2 servers will be needed: one for the downtown area and one for the north side. Each server will cost $4000. 3. Software: a. OrderPro (licensed software) will be needed to process the orders at the branches. It will cost $600 per license. One license will be needed at each of the 10 branches. This is an intial fee only; subsequent yearly fees are detailed under recurring costs. b. Software development: You need to work through the two software sheets included in the Excel file (one is called Function Point Analysis, the other is an Expert Opinion calculation). In this word document you will find information to update both files. When you have finished the updates, you need to verify that the estimates are very close to within 20% of each other. (They should be, but you must show this on one of the sheets.) Then, take the LARGER of the two estimates and enter that value in the Software Development line item of 3.2. 4. Testing: Testing will be budgeted at 10% of total software and hardware cost. 5.0 Training and support: 5.1 Trainee cost is estimated at $1000 per trainee. La Pizzeria has budgeted for two trainees to train on processing the orders. 5.2 Travel cost is estimated at $650 for 1 trainer. 5.3 Project team members will put in about 60 hours at an average rate of $105 for preparing documentation and training material and conducting training. 6.0 Recurring Project Costs: 6.1 The yearly license fee for the OrderPro will be $85. The project is presumed to be in production for three years after initial release, and you will only be billed for production years. 6.2 There is an internal tax or tithe to the corporate IT department of 6% of software development costs for 4 years. (The 4 years comes from 1 year of development and three of product life.) In other words, this figure should be 4 times six percent of the number you calculate after choosing between Function Point analysis and Expert Opinion. 6.3 Software maintenance costs should be figured as 20% of total software development costs for 3 years. Again, this number should be 3 times twenty percent of the number you calculate after choosing between Function Point analysis and Expert Opinion. Project Subtotal Provides a subtotal cost number for use in calculation of reserves as described below. 7.0 Reserves: Reserves are estimated at 20% of sub-total estimate. Function Point Analysis (2) Function Point Calculation A. Data entry screens: a. Pizza Toppings and crust selection b. Drinks, side items c. Address and directions d. Pricing and billing e. Order number confirmation and delivery estimate B. External Interface Files a. Input files i. Customer profile information ii. Customer past order record iii. Available specials b. Output files i. Customer profile update ii. Customer past order record update iii. Billing information update iv. Delivery assignment update v. Ingredient/supply inventory C. update Reports a. Sales activity by date b. Delivery activity by driver c. Inventory update by date d. Sales activity by store e. Customer Record file f. Total sales D. External Queries a. SQL for customer by last name b. SQL for delivery by employee name c. SQL for inventory by ingredient in lowest volume remaining d. SQL for sales by store number e. SQL for customer profile information and last order f. SQL for sales aggregated across stores and listed by sales item E. Database Tables a. Customer b. Employee c. Store d. Ingredients e. Sales 2. 3. 4. 5. Language selection is VB6 Project type is E-Commerce Project Team size will be small Environmental Adjustments a. Risk Resolution Very low b. Development Flexibility Nominal c. Precedentedness Nominal d. Process Maturity Very High e. Team cohesiveness Very low 6. Linear Adjustments a. Language and tool experience very low b. Personnel continuity extra high c. Management capability extra high (all having earned A s in N361, ) d. Management experience extra high e. Office Ergonomics All cubicles decorated and include a personal refrigerator, potted plant, waterfall and I-Pod, thus, extra high f. Platform experience first ecommerce project, thus, very low g. Programmer capability first ecommerce toolset, thus, very low h. Required software reliability What if the loyal customer base can t order pizzas because the site is down? Thus, extra high i. Web Strategy first foray to online commerce, strategy will need to be revisited after project launch, thus, extra high 7. Number of productive hours a month should be calculated at 160 8. Development costs should be calculated at an average hourly rate of $45/hr 9. Software Documentation presume this will cost 15% of development estimate Notes: 1. Presume small project team, thus no penalty for project size 2. Presumes no code is available for code re-use (thus, ignore third article) 3. Presumes a different maintenance calculation than described in fourth article 4. Presumes no scheduling optimization (so ignore discussion in article 3) Expert Opinion Project Labor: (All rates for full time employees already fully burdened) Project Manager will need approximately 120 hours to oversee the project. Hourly rate (fully burdened) is $150. 50 hours will be spent on project estimation, planning, and risk management. 20 hours will be spent on defining the business strategy. 10 hours will be spent and on defining marketing strategy. 10 hours will be spent on defining requirements. 10 hours will be spent on functional and technical specifications, site architecture and test plan 10 hours will be spent on coordinating building the site (including frontend, middle-tier agents and interfaces. 2 hours will be spent on coordinating testing site both at the unit level and the integration level. 8 hours will be spent on deploying the site, including acceptance testing. Senior level developer will need approximately 140 hours to assist with site architecture and oversee junior level developer, database developer and contractor. Hourly rate is $100. Junior level developers will need approximately 600 hours to develop web pages according to functional and technical specifications under the supervision of the Senior level Developer. Hourly rate is $85. Presume two junior level developers, at 600 hours each. Database developer will need approximately 100 hours to build database according to functional and technical specifications under the supervision of the Senior level Developer. Hourly rate is $110. Graphic Designer will need approximately 90 hours to create original graphic for company; will work on the supervision of the Senior level Developer. Hourly rate is $80. Contractor will need approximately 170 hours for consulting under the supervision of the Senior level Developer. Will provide sanity checks for new technical platform. Hourly rate is $45. Technical Writer will need approximately 125 hours to produce software specifications. Hourly rate is $35. Test Engineerr will need approximately 220 to complete testing. Hourly rate is $50. Note: The above numbers should be utilized as expected values. Best and worst case values can be presumed accurate. You need to edit hourly rates, and then calculate Means (see Construx article 1).
