Title: TrustMe: Anonymous Management of Trust Relationship in Decentralized P2P systems
(1) Problems
Usage of decentralized Peer to Peer systems have exploded. Networks like Gnutella, Kazaa have millions of users world wide. One the reason being is the anonymity afforded by the system to its users. But the anonymity can be a double edge sword. It can also make the system vulnerable to malicious users. Such users can imitate a genuine file which instead can turn out to be viruses. Hence an element of trust is required in P2P system. The paper proposes such a system, called TrustMe which associates a trust value with every peer in the system. Currrent approaches do not provide anonymity to peers who rate a certain peer. Also there is no persistence of the ratings as a rating is only stored ath the peer who rates.
(2) New Idea and Strengths
TrusMe over comes these drawbacks and provides way a for a peer to anonmyously rate other peers. There is persistence of rating also. The trust value of a peer global and is randomly stored with another peer. TrustMe system also a holds a peer accountable for the ratings given to another peer. This is done to prevent gaming of the system as well as to identify a mlicious peer trying to manipulate trust ratings. Also the response time of a trust query is rapid. The TrustME system is complatilbe with exsisting Gnutella style systems.
