This change is perhaps the largest that can occur to an ecosystem and it must be expected to produce large changes in the surface radiation balance and the partitioning of the net radiation between evaporation and sensible heat flux. Predicting the climatic effects of these changes has been one of the most active applications of general circulation models (GCMs).
