But do not get the wrong idea; she has and will express her opinions when asked. One may hear Justin or Jtina being shouted out at her in the Bangor halls but her real name is Justina Jacquline Levey As a graduating senior, she has played a very active role during her time spent here at BHS. She has been involved in the cheering program throughout her entire academic career here at Bangor and was this years captain, along with Jacklyn Bokunwicz and Christine Kettle. She has been a member of the school newspaper staff since she was a sophomore. This year she was involved in the Slater Choir and an active member of SGA. She has also recently recieved the A.C.E scholarship award from the Bangor Exchange club. Levey is very excited to be graduating high Photo Editor snowboards at Camelback, Shawnee, Alpine Mountain and at times Snow Ridge. Her favorite snowboarder/ love of her life is Shaun White. She pays her homage to three teachers who have some type of effect on her to make her a better person. Mr. Moyer taught Alyse how to play the game of life and the way to come out on top. Mr. Wilkins has showed Alyse all the constellations and not to mention how to make some mean pancakes. Lastly Mr. Moran has made Alyse aware of the government and that they actually do exist. Horn will be continuing her education at Penn State Berks for two years and then transferring to main campus for her junior and senior year. She has not chosen a major, but has narrowed it down to journalism, psychology or philosophy. Where the road of life may take her from here nobody can be certain, but Horn wants her time spent at Bangor to stay with her and everyone else for a very long time. I want to be remembered for being funny and as nice as I could possibly be always having a smile on my face. I hope that my being nice caused a chain reaction of kindness, she said. This girl is gnarly; she goes by the name of Carly By Alyse Horn Like a cherub sent down from heaven, Carly Janiece Hayward graced us with her presence on May 1, 1990. She floated onto the doorstep of her proud parents Tiffany and Donald Hayward but was not found for a day because of her new brother Scott. He was not too fond of the idea of having a new kid around stealing the spotlight so he slammed her hand in the door. Filled with fear, Carly fled to the safety of her new best friend Kelly the dog and slept in her humble abode. The next day when Tiffany went to feed the dog she also found a little angel snuggled up next to Kelly sleeping like a LifeStyles Editor school this year; however she is sad to be leaving the comfort of BHS. She had this to say about leaving high school, Im excited to graduate but Im always going to miss high school. Her favorite memories from high school include the whipped cream fight in Ms. Holders class her sophomore year, and painting herself for the Bangor/Pen Argyl basketball game with Alsye Horn in their sports bras. She also added how much she has enjoyed spending her days here at BHS with her best friends, and how much she is going to miss them. Through my experiences here at Bangor, I have learned not to plan too far ahead because things happen better when they are spontaneous, said Levey. Levey is an employee of the trolley ice cream shop and the trolley restaurant. When she is not busy cleaning tables and scooping ice cream Levey can be found hanging out with her friends, or helping out with the youth cheerleading squads. She also enjoys singing, dancing and writing. Levey is a good listener and as her friends will tell you is always available to give advice. Justin is a great friend. She has always been there for me whenever I have needed her. She is a good person and we have had a lot of good times together, said senior Jacklyn Bokunwicz. After graduation Levey plans to attend Penn State College at the Berks campus. Than transfering to main campus after two years She has not yet decided upon a major, but she plans to pursue a career as either a social worker or a lawyer. Her greatest influence in making her career choice would be her role model, Amanda Loper, also her social worker. She has taught me that the past does not make you the person you become, you make you the person you become, and I am truly grateful for that, said Levey. Levey has not always had the easiest route, but as she prepares to take those next steps out into the world, she is thankful for all of her experiences good and bad because they have helped to shape the person she has become. As I was growing up I went through a lot of hardships just like everyone else, but I feel like thats what made me the person I am today, and that is what will make me strong when it comes to deciding my future, said Levey. Justina is a very strong and determined individual. She is a person that anyone would be better for knowing. beautiful koala bear. When it was time for this little girl to go for further education, her parents decided that the best for her would be to attend Bangor Area Elementary School. Bangor filled tiny Carlys head with many hopes and dreams. One of them was to become an astronaut; another was to peruse the career of becoming a marine biologist. Once Hayward grew up those ambitions floated out the door, now she would like to own her own tattoo and piercing shop. Kat Von D better watch out because Carly is the new girl in town. During her high school career, Haywards favorite teacher was English teacher Maria Holder. Although she has now left the building, Holder made Carly think of things with more of a modern twist such as Shakespearean plays and the world today. When out of school, Hayward is employed at Luigis Rancho were she works as a bus girl and also a waitress. She also likes hanging out with her friends and her boy friend Josh Hemus. The memories that she would not trade for the world occurred during this past summer, one of her favorites was when she went down the beach with her five best friends and had the time of her life. If you really want to know the truth, Carly is sweeter than a Baby Ruth; some might find her scary but she punches like a fairy. Her favorite lunch is pasta bar and she still does not own a car. Say goodbye to this lively gal, to me and others she was a great pal. Rodrigues: A king among mere mortals By Hannah Houser With initials like EMPOR, Eduardo Rodrigues is only two letters away from being the awesome emperor that he truly is deep down in his heart. Prom king Rodrigues has graced the halls of Bangor High for the past four years, and, although he has only shared his talents for the Slater for one semester, what he brought to the table was much appreciated. While Rodrigues does not feel that writing is his forte, his techsavvy skills made the layout of the paper extra special during that semester. Rodrigues is also an active member of the FBLA club where his charisma and friendly attitude keeps the meetings interesting. In addition, he took part in the behind the scenes action of the high school plays during his Features Editor June 2008 November 2007 April 2008 Page Page 1711 Page 16 Kane looks to the pen for his future By Corey Nicholas Reporter Many students walk the halls and never talk to anyone, but as they pass by the many clusters of friends one may notice that a look-alike walks our halls. Some may say, Hey? Is that Mikey from O.C.C.? students see this individual but many do not know who he is. Known by many of his closest friends as Jesus, 2008 Senior James Kane will always be known as a well behaved and unshaved individual. Born in the urban areas of New Jersey, James was raised as a city boy until the age of ten when he moved to Mount Bethel. James started his school career at Bangor in sixth grade as he joined the amazing class of 2008. James quickly was known as a quiet guy as most new kids are. It was not until Middle School that James came out of his shell. When I first got here I did not know many people, but when I got to middle school I made a few friends, said James. James has continued through his education career completing every grade with satisfactory results and plans to graduate along with the rest of the class. James currently walks the halls with many of his friends and students can find him hanging out in Mr. Pynes journalism class everyday. There are many quirks in the life of James, he has grown his hair out since seventh grade, he has only worn new-balance sneakers (new pair every year), he is an avid Tool fan, he also enjoys the occasional game on his Xbox 360, and he loves the New Jersey Devils. When James was younger he aspired to be a comic book artist sophomore and junior year. Without his manly muscles to push the big truck, the State Fair musical would have been a flop. Pushing the truck wasnt an easy job. It took somebody and strong talented. Thank goodness I was there, or there wouldnt have been anybody else available to push it, Rodrigues explained. Despite working for stage crew, this fine specimen has never had a job. He makes his money by creating Flash games and getting them sponsored by companies such as Armorgames, Addictingames and MoFunZone. Thus far, he has successfully developed 18 Flash games, the final one counting as his graduation project. Rodrigues has certainly proved to all parents out there that playing video games pays off. Once summer is over, Rodrigues plans to attend college at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York where he will major in Computer Science while focusing on game development. I built my own computer. I bought each part separately, assembled it at my house and it works amazingly. This is the computer on which I have created all my games on so far, Rodrigues said. His efforts throughout the past 4 years were nothing short of A+ material and it is safe to say that Rodrigues will be greatly missed by his peers and teachers. Eds really awesome. Sometimes we wear matching orange hoodies, senior Stephen Hudecek said. He has spoiled us with his entertaining jokes and needless to say, everyone needs an Eduardo Manuel Patrick OBrien Rodrigues in their life. and an astronaut. James always likes hanging out with his friends and enjoys a daily cup of green tea. I love green tea it is very good for you, and I enjoy heavenly aroma it emits, Kane said. Unfortunately James has no future plans for a significant other but that does not mean he is unavailable. James will always be remembered as a quiet guy but once one gets to know him he is a riot. James currently plans on attending Northampton Community College and eventually wants to major in English. I one day hope to be a writer and plan on writing novels, Kane said. James will always remember his time at Bangor as some of the happiest in his life and hopefully James will be remembered at Bangor for those same reasons. Zachary Meyers fights his way to the end By Michelle Martinez Lay Out Editor Even though Meyers has only been here for six years he has made many fond memories of Bangor. His favorite memory, however, is that of his eighth grade trip to Philadelphia. I made a bet that I could drink a coffee at every coffee shop we passed. I got sick after the eighth cup. I laughed about it then and I still laugh about it now. Meyers said. Anyone who saw this unforgettable event still laughs along with him. This quiet senior may not make a big racket in school, but outside of school he has made his impact in the world of fighting. Fighting since he was young, Meyers has risen to his best and will be competing in Submission Grappling Nationals on August 3 and 4 in Wildwood, New On October 30, 1989 Zachary Meyers entered the world and on June 11, 2008 he, along with his fellow seniors will graduate from Bangor Area High School. Meyers has attended Bangor Area School District ever since the seventh grade. In those short six years he has left a legacy for underclassmen to follow. In following his dream, Meyers has been accepted to Shippensburg University, one of the known colleges for their education programs. His interest in English has made it very easy for him to choose this as his career goal. Jersey. Even though he likes to express himself with fists, Meyers does have other ways of communicating and that is with writing, the main reason he took Journalism. He also took journalism because he wanted to see his name in print. Hes a well rounded, nice guy. senior Chris Kelley laughed when asked about his friend. Leaving high school should be no problem for this champion and neither will following his dream of becoming a teacher. Meyers knows what he wants and how to get it, something that the four years at Bangor Area High School has instilled in him. April 2008 June 2008 purple Neon is one of her favorite past times. When Boos is not driving around, she can be seen putting her customer service skills to work at Dominos Pizza in Pen Argyl. However, pizza wheeling and dealing is nothing new to Boos since she previously spent much of her time at Vinnys Pizza, three stores down from her current place of employment. In addition to an after school job, Boos has been involved in many clubs and activities throughout the high school. She has been a member of SADD, Student Government and Success Team all four years of high school. She has also been a member of Future Business Leaders of America and Leo club since her sophomore year. Clearly, these activities helped Boos transition into the leader that she is today. Although she enjoyed the clubs she participated in, she wishes she would not have spread herself too thin between activities. I regret joining so many clubs. I wish I would have spent more time with friends and take more pictures. With Booss packed schedule, it is no wonder why she looks forward to summer where she can relax with friends and spend countless hours trying to achieve the perfect tan. Summer time also brings two exciting events for Boos. July 9 marks Carlys birthday, however anyone close to her will recall her crazy slip and slide birthday parties set during the week of The Page 18 Page 18 Carly Boos should own stock in Walmart because she goes there so much By Gina Comunale Editor-in-Chief to the pasta dinners, Boos means business. Big time is the best time of my life. I wait for it every year, and love the Senior Carly Boos has been an active member through the school and community for as long as she can remember. However, not only is she active during the school day, she also has a packed after school schedule filled with work, Walmart trips, ultimate slip and side parties and the occasional car ride to destination: nowhere. Growing up, Carly always had a passion for the arts, with writing in particular. Not only is this seen during her time spent in the journalism class room, but it can also be seen in her sweet mix tape creating skills as well. Music has also been a large part of her upbringing. No, her parents are not world famous musicians or song writers, but she was introduced to various forms of music at an early age through her brother, Joey. One song that holds a place deep in her heart is Mesmerized by Ja Rule. When I was younger, I used to sing it. But as I got older I stopped and thought about the lyrics and wondered, why did my mom listen to this CD? , Carly said. Her mix tape making skills come in handy for Boos since driving around aimlessly listening to sweet beats in her off activities that it brings, Carly reflected. Although the past four years has been filled with plenty of memories, there are a few that stick out in Boos mind. Among them include being in Mr. Glenn Millers biology class...
