(3-0). Prerequisite: Overview of project management for technology-intensive workplaces. The basic tools of project management, including breakdown structure, scheduling, contracting, earned value analysis, and risk management, are described, as well as the elements that are critical to a technical project's success. Prerequisite: Technical undergraduate degree or consent of graduate program advisor. Attendance at all class sessions is expected. There will be a grade penalty for all absences. Two absences will cause you to be dropped from the course. You may choose to complete these modules on the web or you may purchase or check out the CD's. I strongly encourage completing them on the web so that you have an official record of completion. For each online course, the completed score and printed copy of the grade sheet is due in no later than the following Monday at 6:00 PM after the week it is assigned. For example, your first individual set of assigned modules are assigned for 1/24/05 so they are due in to me no later than Monday, January 31, 2005 at 6:00 PM. Deliver your completed scores and documented sheet from the SkillPort modules by dropping off a printed copy to Ivy Er, my graduate assistant, you can also slip a copy under my door. If we do not receive your scores and completed work assignment for the week you will receive a 0 for that individual assignment. I will accept assignment completions early but I will not accept them late. Please review the class schedule for specific due dates. Completed coursework is to be turned in printed form on or before the final due date or a 0 will be issued for that assignment. Project Team Assignments and Final Course Papers have specific due dates and can be turned in, in advance of the final due date but not later than the final due date. Please read the assigned readings for a given day before coming to class. Everyone will be better prepared to discuss and participate in class activities. See the dates for Adds/Drops listed above. These dates will be strictly followed. An "Incomplete" grade will only be issued if a student is maintaining an acceptable level of achievement and for extraordinary circumstances beyond his/her control is not able to complete one or more major assignment. To be considered for an "Incomplete" grade, the student must explain the circumstances to Dr. Gibson in advance and make specific arrangements to make up missing work no later than one semester after the "Incomplete" is issued. Any students who may be in need of additional help under the ADA Guidelines should contact Dr. Gibson personally, the first class period. Exceptions will not be made if notification is made later than 8/23/04. Please review carefully the University of Houston Academic Honesty Policy. Enter your UH network User ID (e.g., "jsmith") as the User ID. 3. Enter your birthdate in mmddyyyy format (e.g., "09151980") as the Password. 4. Spring 2005 Gibson 9 TEPM 6301 Exploratory Paper Requirements You may use one of the inquiry questions that are attached or you may select another related question with approval of Dr. Gibson. You should have decided on your Exploratory Topic by Monday, August 30, 2004 Please email your topic to me no later than August 30, 2004. Paper should have a title page with paper title, your name, submitted to Dr. Michael Gibson, Partial fulfillment for TEPM 6301 Current Date (Final Date Due Date) centered on the page. Text content should be 15+ pages in length plus References and Attachments. Page numbers at bottom/center of each page including the first page of text. Complete Bibliography and citations APA Style format is required. Minimum of 25 references. You may include printed citations, journals, books, paper, articles, websites, or interviews with people who are project team leaders in business organizations. Must be typed double-spaced on single sided paper. The primary focus of this Exploratory Paper is your thoughts, questions, and exploration of the literature; however, I expect your final paper to include the use of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Your Exploratory Paper will be evaluated based on: content evaluation, style (APA Format) analysis, synthesis, quality and diversity of references, as well as presentation.
