You should make sure that Java Web Start have already installed on your computer. For more information about Java Web Start, please reference http://www.mpi.nl/tools/network-launching/index.html Because my web sever haven't set up, you still cannot install the software directly from the web. You should download the Java Web Start configuration file elan3.jnlp to local disk at http://www.cs.wayne.edu/~yudeng/projects.htm and double click the file to run it. If it is first time you start the software, a Security Warning window will open. Please click the "Start" button to start the software. Loading an example There are example annotation files available to download at http://www.cs.wayne.edu/~yudeng/projects.htm. You should modify them before you use. For example, to file a2.eaf, you should change all the "file:///C:/dengyu/" to the path that a2.eaf located in your local disk because the original location of a2.eaf in my local disk is c:\dengyu. Of course, you don't need to change anything if you put the file in c:\dengyu. You also need to download the media files, elan-example2.mpg and elan-example2.wav to the same directory as the annotation file. Comparing to ELAN, OntoELAN takes more time to open/load the annotation file depending on your internet speed. NOTE: User could not see the error report if any error occurs during the software running (I will do it after the software is done). Please do it again if it takes a long time to open files since sometime internet the connection might not good. Please contact me at al6799@wayne.edu if there are problems. Demo Demos are available to download at my website www.cs.wayne.edu/projects.htm . You'd better take a look before you use OntoELAN. 2 of 8 OntoELAN Operation Manual Profile Creation You have to have a profile before you can annotate by ontological terms. Select menu File->Profile->New to create a profile Input Ontology path, which can be both a URL or a local path, author (optional) and descriptions (optional); Click "Create" button. 3 of 8 OntoELAN Operation Manual Ontological Terms that you select from the linguistic ontology. Ontological Terms from the linguistic ontology. User defined terms based on the "Ontological Terms. The profile creation window Add Ontological Terms: Select ontological term(s) from left hand panel ("Index" or "Ontology Tree"); Click "+" button on the top of the "Ontological Terms" panel; Delete Ontological Terms Select the term(s) that you want to delete; Click "-" button on the top of the "Ontological Terms" panel; 4 of 8 OntoELAN Operation Manual Add/Delete User Defined Terms The terms can be add/delete from both Ontological Terms and left hand panel ("Index" or "Ontology Tree") with the similar way as adding/deleting "Ontological Terms"; Edit/View User Defined Term Click "V" button on the top of the User Defined Term panel; You can change the name, descriptions as well as the ontological terms that it includes. 5 of 8 OntoELAN Operation Manual Creating Ontological Tier 1. Add a new linguistic type for Ontological Tier. The "Stereotype" must be "Symbolic Association" 2. Add a new Ontological Tier. You should define a parent tier. The "Profile" will be available to input if you select a "Linguistic Type" which "Stereotype" is "Symbolic ...
