CHARLES STURT UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES Nuclear Medicine, Medical Imaging and Physics GENERAL LABORATORY RULES 1. Fully enclosed, solid (non mesh), non slip, footwear must be worn. Anyone wearing thongs, ugg boots, open-toed or open-heeled shoes or slip on shoes that do not cover a significant portion of the top or side of the foot will not be permitted in the laboratory. All activities involving radioactive sources must be supervised by an individual with an appropriate current supervision licence and have been endorsed by the universities radiation safety committee (RSC)! Personal monitoring devices (TLDs) must be worn during pracs involving any source of radiation. Properly fastened laboratory coats must be worn when instructed by laboratory personel. No horseplay or running is permitted in the laboratory or corridor. No sitting on laboratory benches. Under no circumstances are unauthorised experiments to be conducted in the laboratory. No smoking, drinking, eating, handling of food, wearing of headphones,sucking pens, chewing fingernails, shaving or application of cosmetics is permitted in the laboratory. Failure to abide by this may result in your removal from the laboratory. Mobile phones must be switched off and not used in the Laboratory. Phones used during class time may be confiscated for decontamination or the user asked to leave the lab (please see supervisor if the phone is needed for a pertinent personal issue). Hair must be kept from moving about the face and the work area. Hair ties, caps, secured scarves and bandanas are all acceptable means by which the hair can be restrained. <a href="/keyword/safety-glasses/" >safety glasses</a> must be worn as instructed by the lab staff, lecturer, demonstrator or prac notes.
