of University Worcester Undergraduate Modular Scheme Computing Module: COMP 2061 Assignment: 1 Learning Outcomes: 1. use an event driven programming language development environment 2. analyse a specification and construct an event driven program design to satisfy the specification. 3. apply an event driven program design to code, test and document an event driven program using an event driven programming language 4. reflect upon their approaches to learning a programming language Task You are required to develop (using Visual Basic 6) and demonstrate an application that simulates a national lottery results checker. The application should predominately employ array data structures to hold both the winning numbers and the numbers to be checked. A typical interface is given at www.national-lottery.co.uk The solution should include the following EITHER o Facility to check a set of numbers against a single draw but not a bonus ball (Solutions incorporating this alternative will be limited to a D+) OR o A solution that includes the use of a bonus ball, a 2-dimensional array data structure to hold a history of results and the following facilities (Solutions incorporating this alternative will be limited to a C+) to check a set of numbers against this weeks winning numbers display the current week's winning numbers display a history of draws OR o A solution that includes the use of a bonus ball, a 2-dimensional array data structure to hold a history of results and facilities to check a set of numbers against a history of draws display the current week's winning numbers display a history of draws Random generation of winning numbers Adherence to the module code style and use of standardised documentation Test facility to independently specify particular winning numbers MDI forms A function that matches winning and user numbers (as specified below) You are also required to demonstrate your solution on Tuesday, 23rd May, 2006 (2pm6pm). At this demonstration you will be expected to answer questions on your solution and its development. Function Requirement You are required to include a function to check user numbers with winning numbers. This function should be developed separately and then integrated into the rest of the code. Listed below are suggestions (in decreasing levels of difficulty) for possible function implementations. The more difficult a solution is, the more marks that solution will attract. The function is passed a 2-dim array containing a history of results together with an array holding the user numbers. The function returns a 2-dim array, each line holding any winning user numbers and number. week The function processes a globally defined 2-dim array containing a history of results together with a globally defined array holding the user numbers. It returns a 2-dim array, each line holding any winning user numbers and week number. The function is passed a 1-dim array containing the winning numbers together with an array holding the user numbers. The function returns a 1-dim array holding any winning user numbers. The function processes a defined 1-dim array containing the winning numbers together with a globally defined array holding the user numbers. It returns an integer to indicate how many winning user numbers there are Submission Requirements A completed Item Report Form A CD-ROM or floppy disk containing your application (N.B. Please check that this application runs directly from this medium) An indexed set of documentation, to include: o An separate annotated hardcopy code listing fragment clearly illustrating your implementation of the module code style o A separate hardcopy code listing for both the number checking function and the independent testing software used o Test plan and completed test log for the entry and storage of user numbers o StateChart for the main interface (model only initial events) o SEL Chart and separate code listing for the population of the winning number array with random numbers o Bibliography An electronic version of your documentation (in addition to the hardcopy version) Assessment criteria General assessment criteria are given in the Computing handbook. For this particular task you will be gi...
