- DECO2205 2009 - Principles of ArchiCAD - Tutorial 1B This document has been produced to guide, assist and sustain your learning of the basics of ArchiCAD, as you read and review the ArchiCAD Essentials Interactive Training Guide and later, to function as a reference to assist further learning and relearning of ArchiCAD. The document consists of instructions and review templates (review structures awaiting your comments), to assist you to read, reflect and document your findings and experiences of ArchiCAD and BIM (Building Information Modeling). The ArchiCAD 12 Essentials Training Guide is more advanced and the modeled assembly of buildings is more complex than the single domestic scale structure modeled in the Tutorial 1A Basic Training Guide. Therefore Tutorial 1B is not recommended for the faint hearted. Students who are most likely to find the extra challenges worth taking on include: Architecture students in third year or above who will be designing medium to large buildings this year. Other students with better than average computing skills who are keen to explore ArchiCAD and BIM technology. Note that, as the ArchiCAD Essentials Guide includes BIM throughout, it is not necessary to complete the separate BIM Training Guide, included in Tutorial 1A. To complete Tutorial 1B you are required, by the end of week 5, to: 1. Read all of the ArchiCAD 12 Essentials Interactive Training Guide and complete the Review as instructed below. 2. For each chapter complete the exercises and summarise key instructions, adding your technical observations under the relevant headings and sub-headings listed below. Think of this review as a supplement to the training guide, intended to assist your future use of the guide when you need to refresh or extend your knowledge, not a replacement. Don't try to condense every item. You will save time by focusing on the points that will assist your re-use of the manual at some future time Include images of software elements, such as dialog boxes, and progressive views of the exercise, when this helps to reinforce your words. Avoid unnecessary images. Instead try to ensure that each image has a definite purpose and relates to an item in the text and is adequately labelled. As a broad indication of scope you can reasonably expect your Part 1 review to occupy about 1 page for each 3-4 pages of the training Guide. Some chapters may require more and some less. For example, in the latter chapters of the Guide where the focus shifts from production to documentation a more economical, more conceptual treatment may be appropriate. These are suggestions, not requirements. However, if you find your review appears likely to extend to many more, or many fewer pages, you are probably getting into too much detail or not enough, respectively. Getting Started with the Interactive Training Guide It is necessary to read, use and remember the contents of this introduction in order to get started. However, you will become familiar with many of the Getting Started details by the time you have done this tutorial. So focus your writing. Don't try to record every detail. Summarise what you have read and concentrate on vital items that you could forget, and may need in the future.
