Students must earn a grade of C or higher in this course to satisfy the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR). In addition, this course can fulfill the GWAR only if a student has completed 90 or more quarter units of college work before taking it. To be eligible for a C in English 305, students must earn a C or higher on at least one in-class writing assignment. Since this is an online class, this assignment may be given at the first meeting or the last.

Essay Drafting Procedure--FOR EACH ESSAY
1. Read the assigned chapter in the text that explains the essay mode, specifically noting the example essays by the authors noted in parentheses on the schedule below. 2. Check the course blog for the essay prompt and other notes concerning the assignment. I will also post weekly questions to stimulate discussions about writing and research, focusing on the purpose or "mode" assigned for the given week. For participation points, you must participate substantively in these blog discussions. 3. Compose your first draft being aware of your writing process. 4. Use the blog for draft discussion before submitting your rough draft. This range can from a complete reading of another student's draft to good, solid questions on specifics of the draft. Again, participation includes your questions and responses to each other as well as to the weekly discussion questions. 5. Submit your complete rough draft to me as an email attachment--to English305@bak.rr.com 6. After I return your draft with my comments (which will also be an email attachment), compose your final draft. 7. Continue to use the blog to discuss your final draft before you submit it for grading. 8. Submit your final draft to turnitin.com for an originality report.
