PREREQUISITE: Management 2400 COURSE MATERIALS: Fundamentals of Corporate Finance 5th Cdn edition Ross, Westerfield, Jordan, Roberts - McGraw Hill COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course introduces corporate financial decision-making and analysis. Topics explored include business forms, the financial manager, financial statement analysis, ratios, cash flows, valuation of future cash flows, stock and bond valuations, raising capital, and project analysis & evaluation. The central theme is maximization of the organization's value. Webcasts, videos and other media will be introduced and discussed in class to provide students with current economic and financial market information. This is to assist with the assignment completion and general understanding of economic and financial issues as they develop in North America and internationally. Students are highly encouraged to further their knowledge of current events by reading financial newspapers, magazines, websites, etc. Recommended reading will be provided in class. Exams - each exam will cover assigned chapters, discussion in class, handouts, videos, webcasts and any other material assigned. The final exam will be cumulative and written during the final exam week. Management 3040D Finance 1 of 4
Assignment - The assignment is a group report (maximum of five students per group). The assignment is to complete the Mini Cases at the end of Chapters 9 and 10 (page 263 and 300 respectively). The completed assignment should include: (a) a cover page with the names of each group participant; (b) a footer with the page number; (c) a header which includes the names of each group participant. The assignment is due at midnight, Friday, March 31. Participation - While no grade is assigned for participation, students that actively participate generally perform better on exams and assignments. The class will be interactive in nature and your contribution will be appreciated. Always bring your text and calculator to class. Notes: Exams & Assignments Missed exams and assignments will result in a mark of zero being recorded and will continue to be weighted in accordance with this syllabus. Weighting and time of writing of any exam or assignment cannot be shifted, except when a documented, legitimate reason is provided which will be verified (eg. medical reasons supported by a Doctor's note). Students will not be allowed to return to the exam room once he or she leaves the room; all materials must be submitted (including the exam itself) which will be graded to the extent completed. All exams must be submitted to the Instructor/Invigilator before leaving the room or a grade of zero will be recorded. All University of Lethbridge calendar policies, including Academic Offences and Discipline Procedures, will be enforced. Plagiarism on assignments and cheating during exams will be punished to the full extent allowable by the University. Concept Review & Critical Thinking Questions (end of chapter) It is strongly recommended the assigned Concept Review & Critical Thinking Questions are read and solutions thought through by the student. No written submissions are required. The objective is to provide a short review of material covered in class.
