1 Hartley Jacob Hartley Mark Rubinfeld Sociology January 17, 2006 Chapter 3 You know you would have to find it interesting when you really take a hard look at the way Americans are raising their children. After reading the section on Socialization into Gender I did a little experiment unknowingly, not realizing that I was actually finding the differences in my two nephews that I was baby sitting over this last weekend. Well Jonathon is four and Alex is five and I happen to notice that Alex was the typical five year old girl that loved to dress up, play parent by helping me take care of Jonathon, and was just still in the little doll stage. Meanwhile Jonathon is running around the house playing around and I remembered that when I was little my parents looked at my brother Josh and I as little rug rats that always was trying to kill one another I mean we were violent little buggers. But by looking at Jonathon he is the same way I was and I see how it is normal for a little boy to have role models and heroes on TV that are big and strong but also are more prone to sex and violence. I dont know if you know the show Yu Gi Ho or how ever you spell it? Well it is Jonathons favorite show and it is pointed towards younger and littler kids, anyway if you look at the battle scenes it is actually quiet violent. What Im getting at is that children are actually learning at a young age where they fit in, in life as gender is concerned. Hartley 2 I also see how school helps parents to raise their children, I dont have kids but I used to work in the nursery at my dad work taking care of about 20 kids at a time. And they really start to develop personal friendships and other perspectives on life only while being with little kids and watching different kinds of programs on the T.V. With religion I know that there is a 90% chance that if your parents are for a certain faith you will probable be of that faith as well. My out look on that is that parents need to keep their children out of churches until they come of age to understand and choice to make the decision to go to church, you might not agree but I think that taking a child to church at a young age only brain washes him/her into the religion, I know that there are many religions out there but because there are so many how do you know what ones are true. Well Im getting a little off track back to the book. Well I went to basic training and to answer the questions on page 86, no one that has not experienced basic does not fully understand what it means to be broken down then built back up. The degradation ceremony is were the soldier is torn down the first day of basic otherly know as hell day, it sucks. Well to make a quick story short your not...
