After you have obtained all of your sign offs for this Unit, be sure that a BLC staff member indicates on your Lab Card that you are OK to take the Unit 4 Exam. Also, keep this sign off page, along with your completed lab worksheets, as proof of your lab completion. If your Lab Card indicates that you have not completed the required Labs for this Unit, and you feel that you have, it is up to you to provide proof that you have indeed done the Labs. Keep this page! ___________ Unit 4, Step 2A (Axial Bone Packet - labeled pictures) ___________ Unit 4, Step 2B (Pronunciation Skill - 12 terms) *BLC Staff: After the student receives their last initial on this page, please indicate on their Lab Card that he/she is OK to take the Unit 4 Exam. Page 2 STEP 2, Part A: Axial Bone Packet This part of your lab is contained in a separate packet (Axial Bone Packet) with unlabeled bone pictures. Follow the instructions in the packet. You will be asked to show the completed axial bone packet to a staff member in order to get your check off. _____________________________________________________________________________ _ STEP 2, Part B: Pronunciation Skill Pronouncing anatomical terms correctly is an important skill that you need to learn. People will not take you seriously on the job if you mispronounce anatomical terminology. Using the links in Unit 4, Step 2 of the BIO 201 Course Website, along with your textbook, learn how to pronounce the following 12 terms: sphenoid bone occipital bone parietal bone sella turcica foramen ovale middle nasal conchae mandibular symphysis alveolar margins hyoid bone intervertebral disc thoracic vertebra coccyx Read the list of terms (above), using proper pronunciation, to a staff member. It is OK if you make a few mistakes -- the staff member will correct you, if necessary, and then ask you to say the term again. The key is that you start to get a feel for how to pronounce anatomical terms, many of which have their roots in Latin. You will begin to see some patterns, and it will get easier. And by the way, there may be more than one way to properly pronounce some of these terms. Many of the differences are the result of regional variations (e.g. British vs. American english pronunciations). _____________________________________________________________________________ _ THE NEXT LAB ACTIVITIES WILL BE DONE ON YOUR OWN IN THE LEARNING CENTER. YOU DO NOT NEED ANY CHECK OFFS FROM THE STAFF, BUT YOU WILL NEED THE INFORMATION TO TAKE THE ONLINE LAB SELF-QUIZ (LQ-4) IN STEP 3. YOU MUST BE IN THE BLC TO COMPLETE THE NEXT LABS (PARTS C-E). Do not expect the BLC staff to give you the answers to following activities. However, if you are having trouble, someone can help "lead you in the direction." right Also, refer to the "How to Page 3 study for this class" link on your Online Course Resources page. It gives a lot of hints for how to properly study in the lab environment. _____________________________________________________________________________ _ STEP 2, Part C: Paranasal Sinuses Find the Paranasal Sinuses skull model in the BLC. It is located just behind the large salt water aquarium in the front of the lab. It is in a glass display case. If you are having trouble finding it, look at the picture on the course website in the Step 2 instructions. You may not touch the skull. Just look at it through the display case. Answer Questions #1-3 (below). See fig. 7.11 in your textbook for help.
