ME 4182 Application of the design process to solve an engineering problem which includes interdisciplinary parameters such as human factors, engineering economy, safety, etc. A team structure is used to design a mechanical device or machine that performs the functions established by a project description. Each team produces detailed drawings, detailed specifications, a presentation, and a prototype of the proposed design. BLAH BLAH BLAH Goals for the course Invent something useful Apply your analytical knowledge to design it Build it, test it Document everything on web (make a website) and keep notebooks (get a notebook) Patent it, start company, make $$$ Big picture of 4182 Lipkin's section Bras's section $1000 1st place $ Cunefare's section Larson's section Forest's section $600 2nd place $400 3rd place Lectures, M: 3-4p, MRDC 2405 either by me or a guest speaker Design process Patent search, process, and pitfalls Industrial design and human factors Manufacturing: from a space-filling model to mass production Mass production: design for assembly, design for manufacture materials Market research Marketing Management: valuation, business plan Funding your startup Forming a company Professional ethics GT resources to help you be an entrepreneur Deliverables www.me.gatech.edu/cforest/me4182/2009/ Projects for ME4182 section E Fall 2008 1.
