This will be helpful in teaching English. In addition, you will learn techniques of syntactic analysis that are applicable to other languages. Textbook: C.L. Baker, English Syntax (2nd Edition) Requirements: 1. Reading assignments from the textbook. Be sure to complete the readings by the date due, so that you get the most out of the lectures. 2. Homework. There will be regular homework assignments from the textbook. All work shown on the schedule is recommended, but hand in only those exercises shown in [italics]. Please hand in your work on time. Late homework will receive no credit. 4. Class attendance and participation. 5. Tests. Two in-class midterm examinations and a final examination. Method of evaluation: Grading will be weighted as follows: first midterm 20%, second midterm 20%, final exam 25%, homework 30%, class participation 5%.
