Designer Chip Kidd has accomplished many great things. He has designed book jackets, posters, album art, magazine covers, and a variety of other designs. He has designed more than 1500 book covers so far in his life. He has worked by himself and with others on books such as Batman Collected, Batman Animated, Golden age of DC Comics: 365 Days, Wonder Woman: The Life and Times of the Amazon, and Superman: The Complete History: The Life and Times of the Man of Steel. He was actually somewhat obsessed with Batman and superheroes. Batman Collected was given the Design Distinction Award. It comes up a lot in his work. He designed many book covers including All The Pretty Horses, The Crossing, and Cities of the Plain. He got an `international center of photography award for use of photography in graphic design" (Identity Theory). Kidd's first book The Cheese Monkeys "was a national best seller and a New York Times Notable Book of the Year" (Good is Dead). Kidd has worked with many writers including
Stonington, Connecticut and New York City. He has been an art director at the publishing company Alfred Knopf since 1986, and a consultant for the Paris Review. Chip Kidd has a very unique style and is known as "the closest thing there is to a rock star in the rarefied world of high-end graphic design" (Austin Chronicle). He actually started his career when he was in college. When he was in college he started writing fiction a called The Cheese Monkeys: A Novel in Two Semesters. It's a novel about a male college student who discoveries graphic design around the time of the 1950's. He graduated From Pennsylvania State University as a Graphic Design Major.
