Today, recreation has become an accepted and even expected service provided by individual states. I - Outdoor Recreation & Resources (state parks, state forests, fish & wildlife, and trail systems) II - Tourism Promotion III - The Arts IV - Other State Services (correctional institutions, state hospitals, care & activity centers, substance abuse programs, museums, fair grounds, and cultural programs) 1) Which of the (4) four main components would you ever see yourself considering for employment? I. They are legally constituted NON-governmental entities. II. They are incorporated as a charitable or Not for Profit Corporation. III. They operate with altruistic motives (ethical, moral, or social). IV. They have a public sector mission (public interest at heart). V. They have tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service. VI. The have a governance structure that identifies a board of directors to oversee executive staff. This is supposed to preclude self-interest and personal gain being achieved on the part of the executive staff. FYI - The major types of organization are: ? Youth Serving ? Religious sponsored organizations ? Organizations serving Special Populations ? Relief Organizations ? Social Service Organizations ? Conservation Organizations ? Service Clubs (Individual descriptions found on pages 275-288) 1) Read each of the descriptions and identify (1) one area that you feel you would consider for employment. What drew you to your decision? Be specific and detailed in your explanation. 2) There are (11) eleven-revenue sources listed. (pages 270-272) Identify (3) three areas that you feel you could work in when employed in your chosen non-profit agency. Provide specific examples of what you would establish as new ideas in these areas.
