Explain some of the graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and communications messages that occur during the operation of a microwave.
Microwave ovens manufactured in current times can operate a wide array of functions. The operation functions they are able to perform seem endless and learning to operate one can easily become overwhelming to new users. However, most microwaves are very similar in operation and learning a few select button combinations is quite easy. When observing the control pad there are many buttons. Some are preprogrammed with settings to cook one kind of food such as popcorn, meat, vegetables, ect... After placing chosen item in the microwave one press of a button the microwave turns on and begins heating at preset a temperature for a predetermined amount of time. Alternately, one can chose not to use a preset key and choose to manually select a power setting and time setting to heat a specific item. All messages are displayed on an LED screen located on the front of the microwave, usually just above the keypad. The microwave will run at the specified time and will automatically turn off and display a message and beep to let the user know the operation is complete.
Describe some of the advantages of having a componentized system. For example, what happens if the microwave breaks? There are several advantages to have a componentized system. It can be much easier to diagnose problems in the event something breaks. If the microwave breaks we can observe specific areas to troubleshoot the problem. For example, if a light isnt coming on in the inside, we can first check for power, then check the bulb. When cooking if the food stops spinning we know to first check the plate the food is sitting on and make sure it is properly seated. Next we know to check the spinner and ensure it is spinning correctly, ect.. The point is that there are only a couple specific items necessary for the correct function of the microwave.
