Wertman Brittany The Beatles A popular music group that has blessed us with their musical talent is The Beatles. For years they have captured our hearts with their fun-loving music and truthful lyrics. The group consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Together they became part of the counterculture era which created the hippie culture. The 1960's brought about Peace, Love and a new genre of music. Similar to the rise of Elvis Presley, they too were given coin names such as "The Fab Four" and "Beatlemania" as well as also appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show. "Beatlemania" became world-wide after their massive success in the United Kingdom. And from their success they have been coined the best-selling band in the history of pop culture. They too like Presley were not just given the stardom, but had to earn the respect from the people and slowly had to make their way to the top of the chain. "Teens loved their off-kilter appearance, collarless suits, mop-top hair and quirky personalities." stated in a Beatles Biography. Teenagers are the concentration for many up and coming music groups. They have no prior knowledge of what a true band should be like so if they can get their attention, for sure they will lead them to stardom. Fans screaming, music blaring and women fainting at the sight of them...every male bands fantasy. This was just how an average night went for The Beatles. "I have never seen anything like it. Nor heard any noise to approximate the ceaseless, frantic, hysterical scream which met the Beatles when they took the stage after what seemed a hundred years of earlier acts. All very good, all marking time, because no one had come for anything other than the Beatles..." stated by Derek Taylor, author Fifty of Years Adrift. The Beatles received a whopping 20 Number One singles in the US, outnumbering Elvis Presley's 17 at the time. The Beatles eighth studio album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club, has been acclaimed as one of the most important albums in the history of popular music. The album was based on a psychedelic rock style and had won four Grammy awards in the year 1968. In 2003, the album was placed at number one on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." The Beatles will forever live on because of the tremendous influence they had on not only their home country, but ours as well. Even knowing this band was created in the 1960s, it's amazing how in the year 2011 they are still being talked about as if they just played Madison Square Garden yesterday. Their music is so inspiring that it is still being listened to by the younger generations. Even the video game Rock Band has dedicated a whole game to just The Beatles. In 2007, Across The Universe, was released; a musical created around the music sensation of The Beatles. I think mainly due to that musical, many people of the younger generation were introduced to the pop legend and the older generation was taken down memory lane with the beautiful music soundtrack. The Legend of The Beatles lives on, such as that of Elvis Presley. Their music continues to enlighten America and bring back memories of the peace and love era of the 1960s. The music is so mellow and it just makes you want to relax and be happy, personally that's why I was drawn to the band. It's also a nice experience to actually have a passion to share with my parents. My whole family is a fan of The Beatles and weather it was because we lived through it or we listen now, their legend is surviving and will continue to survive.
