find I Marlowes tragedies to practically mirror tragedies in life today. The author states "Marlowe's work reflects the passion and violence of his own life, with heroes striving to achieve the unachievable by overcoming all limits, only to be defeated by destiny." (Cunningham & Reich, 2009). This is true today with someone who survives one type of cancer and its horrific treatments only to succumb to a different type five years down the road. The soldiers who survive the war only to get killed in a plane crash on the way home. The guy who wins the lottery and dies the next day. The chief executive officer who built a million-dollar corporation starting in the slums of Harlem, only to be gunned down in an accidental drive-by shooting. Shakespeares Hamlet and Julius Caesar good are examples of soliloquy, a kind of speech in which characters utter their thoughts aloud, without addressing them to anyone else. (Cunningham & Reich, 2009). Hamlets To Be Or Not To Be is a perfect example of soliloquy. Imagine if people today uttered their thoughts aloud not addressing them to anyone else. They would be institutionalized for having visual or auditory hallucinationsdiagnosed as schizophrenic. Unfortunately, Shakespeares Julius Caesar can be likened to todays society in the way the characters betray him. Society, especially in the business and political world, is full of back stabbers, people with questionable character and traitors. Work Cited: Cunningham, L.S. & Reich, J.J. (2009). Culture and values, Vol.2. (pp. 350). Mason, Ohio: Cengage Learning.
