4 The Assignment concert I attended was called Chamber Choir & Concert Choir Concert. In my opinion, I thought that both choirs performed very well. The first Choir that performed was the Chamber Choir. The Chamber Choir sung three different , the first songs being Warum is das Licht gegeben dem muhselign by Johannes Brahms. Although I could not understand the first song as it was in a different language, I thought that it was beautiful. I thought it was amazing how these performers could start singing with out any music except for a note from the piano. I enjoyed how the singers gradually enhanced the volume of their voices, emphasizing their loudest note and then descended till there was silence. I also enjoyed that the volume increased during each note up until the endnote where the volume was the loudest. When the men joined into the singing I thought it was interesting how they sang two different parts of the song as one. The tempo of this song was Adagio; it stayed the same tempo throughout the whole song. Although the tempo was slow, the dynamics of the song were mild. The dynamics gradually got louder and softer until the last emphasized loud note. The next song that the concert choir sung was Black is the color of my true loves hair written by Rene Clausen,I liked how at the beginning of the song it started with only a clarinet playing. The clarinet was smooth and soft sounding as it was playing high notes soothing notes. When the choir started to sing, I liked how they had one group sing and then the other join in after a couple beats. I liked this because it gave the song more texture. The type of texture I think this song would be is polyphonic since one group starts to sing the verse in a higher melody while when the second group joins in they are singing at a lower melody. I liked how the girls were singing one part of the song while the men were singing black is the color of my true loves hair over them. I got lost trying to listen to what they were singing because I was trying listen to to one sing but then the other group would join in singing a different verse. Although this was slightly confusing, I still felt like they did an amazing job. The tempo of the song again was adagio. Overall, I enjoyed this piece of music because the lyrics were easy to understand and the song did not have a complex rhythm. Therefore, I felt the song flowed easy and was pleasant to listen to. An der schonen blauen Dona, written by Johann Strauss Op. 314 was the last song the concert choir performed. This song sounded very familiar to me as it reminded me of a song that would be played for a waltz or an intimate dance. I liked how in the program they gave you the translation of the song so I could follow along with what they are singing word for word. I felt like the singing added to the song because I always enjoyed putting words to music, but either way this piece was beautiful with or without words. The next choir that sung was the Chamber Choir. Their first song was An die Heimat by Johannes Brahms. I did not exactly like this song because it seemed very confusing as I found myself lost throughout several parts. The tempo of the song was adagio as it was slow. There was polyphonic texture since there were two melodies being sung at two different times. The lyrics were difficult to understand since they were in a different language but the choir did articulate them very well so I could follow along in the translation. Overall, I enjoyed the concert as the singers were very professional. I thought the solos were sung very well they all had beautiful voices. The students that played the instruments did a wonderful job. I liked how instead of using numerous amount of instruments, they only used a few which made it easier to focus on the singers. I thought that it was amazing how they could just start singing with only a few notes played by an instrument. The concert itself was interesting as the music and performers were professional in the way they sang and presented themselves.
