You will work with a partner and evaluate a product and share your findings with the class via a poster presentation. What to do: 1. Select a product or ingredient: Each team of 2 will select a product or ingredient promoted to improve athletic performance. Some popular ingredients in supplement products are: Boron, Branched chain amino acids (BCAA valine, leucine and isoleucine), Caffeine, Coenzyme Q10, Creatine, Carnitine, DHEA, Ginseng, Glucosamine, Glutamine, HMB, Synephrine, Whey protein, Yohimbine. 2. Sign up: Deadline is October 26th. 3. Worksheet: Answer the Evaluating a Supplement worksheet 4. Create the poster: Use the information from the worksheet to create a poster that shares with classmates what you learned. Your poster should include the 5 parts described below along with any visuals that help with presenting the information. The poster should be easy to read, clear & organized. Title: Title poster with name product or ingredient and your names. Claims: Describe whom the product is marketed to (strength or endurance athletes, people who want to lose weight) and the performance claims. Evaluation: Explain what you found out about the product. Is it safe and effective? What are the risks when taking this product? Conclusion: Based on your evaluation, draw conclusions. Tell us your unbiased opinion. Would you recommend the product? Is it worth the money? Support your conclusion so others understand why you believe what you believe. Sources: List 3 unbiased, credible sources you used to evaluate product/ingredient. 5. Present your poster: Poster presentations will be on November 16 and 23. a. Students will give a 4-minute presentation of their poster to a small group. b. Presentation will be repeated 4 times to a new group of students c. Classmates will have an opportunity to ask questions. 6.
