Schatz Zach November 14, 2011 PRL 214 Gap Inc. Helps the Fight Against Breast Cancer On November 8th Gap Inc. held a press conference to announce their upcoming collaboration with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This joint effort will feature an exclusive line of apparel and accessories in which all proceeds will be donated to help the fight against breast cancer. The announcement drew a large crowd in Central Park with a panel featuring Glenda Murphy, CEO of Gap Inc., Nancy Brinker, founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and celebrity designer Kim Kardashian. As a part of their commitment to community involvement, Gap Inc. works with a non-profit organization each year. At the conference Gap Inc. announced that all their companies Banana Republic, Gap, Athleta and Piperlime will be introducing a line in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Piperlime has agreed to partner with Kardashian to design a line of shoes donating all proceeds. The black patent leather shoes will feature a unique sole pink and Kardashian's signature. Banana Republic stores nationwide will hold a special, one-day shopping event to help the cause. The event will feature Banana Republic's signature chinos in pink for a limited time. Gap Inc. will be offering a family clothing line including cardigans, shirts, blouses, T-shirts and shoes. Athleta, specializing in women's athletic wear, will release a line of water bottles, yoga mats, sports bras and workout clothing to contribute. Gap Inc. has a strong history with joining nonprofit organizations to help a greater cause. Some of these include Product RED, FEED and Habitat for Humanity. Susan G. Komen for the Cure, their newest partner, is the largest breast cancer foundation in the US. Approaching their 30th anniversary, the foundation has already raised nearly $2 billion for purposes of breast cancer research, education, advocacy and support. The collaboration with Gap Inc. will surely aid their endeavor to help women in need both now and years to come.
