8, March 2010 - John Jequet - Scott Belsky- worked at Goldman o Business is 3 years; paper product - my path... common themes: creativity, leadership development, organization & technology - he focused on entrepreneur and ended up going to Goldman Sachs for 5 years- traditional finance, leadership development - left Goldman for business school - my common frustration... most ideas never happen. - Learned about the other forces at play. - He did a lot of polls. For example, how organized are you? /how creative are you? o Many are creative, but struggle to organize. - "genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration" Edison - Bold idea. Found a company that helps organize creative people to make ideas happen. Focus on 99%. - Help people create something. - Organize what? o The creative world's work o The way creative teams manage projects and collaborate o The way agencies/recruiters find and manage creative talent. o How creative people stay productive and accountable. - translate ideas to products and services - they are here to organize you, not inspire you - on the MACRO level, organize the creative world's work. o What's the difference between this and youtube? o This technology leverage helps other companies- such as MTV, linkedin - On the MICRO level, organize creative people and teams. o Started with paper product o Mission: to organize creative world. More important. o You pay for the product to enhance yourself. There's information about the network and action method online (done online). o For profit marketing strategy. B&N buys their books and helps link to internet. o Design helps people be more organized. o Create a site that is like a think tank- called it "the 99% think tank" Let people talk about their execution not their ideas. o Making Ideas Happen (Penguin, April 2010) Helps with credibility - aspirations o have the leading platform with the best products and services for creative professionals. o Re-organize the creative industries o Help more great ideas happen. - what I have learned - short-circuit your rewards system - initiative matters more than experience what you do outside of class is more important focus more on mission and less on medium seek feedback relentlessly value design nothing extraordinary is ever achieved through ordinary means. www.behance.com email: scott@behance.com book: makingideashappen.com
