Agency that reviews degree granting engineering and technology programs throughout this country to ensure that they are meeting established standards of educational quality. Why is ABET accreditation important to students? Nationwide recognition and is highly valued by employers State licensing boards and certification programs may require graduation from an ABET accredited program during the registration or certification process for professional practice. ABET, continued Programs are required to specify outcomesabilities and characteristics that students are expected to possess upon graduation. The also program has to develop and implement a process of continuous improvement, involving the collection and analysis of quantitative data regarding the program outcomes, the evaluation of this data to assess whether the program objectives are being achieved, and the initiation of actions to correct any problems that are identified. The School of Chemical Engineerings accreditation was renewed in 2008. ABET, continued Outcomes that are pertinent to ChE 200: understand and appreciate the need for professional integrity and ethical decision making in the professional practice of chemical engineering (6) demonstrate an understanding of contemporary issues encountered in the professional practice of chemical engineering including business practices, environmental, health, and safety issues and other public interests. Our graduates will be aware of the wide-reaching effects that engineering decisions have on society, our global community and our natural environment (8) appreciate the need for and engage in life-long learning to maintain and enhance the professional practice of chemical engineering (9)* *In class assessment Fall 2010 Back-up Slides Educational Objectives and Outcomes Engineer of 2020 ABET criteria have added to the breadth of engineering curricula, however they often fail to emphasize key skills such as leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, and managing change. How do you adapt an engineering program to meet the changing needs of 21st century graduates? At Purdue, the Engineer of 2020 initiative began in 2004 after the release of the NAE publication The Engineer of 2020: Visions of Engineering in the New Century. Two year later, after much discussion and debate, Purdue's Engineer of 2020 Target Attributes were approved by the faculty. Implementing Engineer of 2020
