College Axia Material Appendix A Meditation Worksheet Directions: Locate two resources on the Internet that explain meditation techniques. Copy and paste the web address into the top of the matrix. After reviewing the website, provide a brief summary for each source. Below your summary, list two interesting facts you learned from each site. Try the techniques you located in your Internet search. Provide a brief description of what happened in your experience. Be sure to answer the two questions below the matrix also. PSY/201 Web Address (URL): Summary of resource: Two interesting Facts: http://www.projectmeditation.org/a_mt2/tai_chi_meditation.html Known as Movement Meditation Tai Chi is similar to Yogi because it also incorporates controlled movement, carefully controlling the muscles in your body (legs, torso, arms and just about all other parts of the body. Unlike many other forms of meditation you are not required to sit and close your eyes but you must move your chi through your body to reach points of pain and rid your body of stress. The Tai Chi has been around for roughly hundred years and is known to be an ancient Chinese practice created to channel your concentration into the movements of your body and align those thoughts with focus to the mind. http://www.mum.edu/tm.html# Tai Chi meditation is a practice that will continue to de-stress those who regularly participate. It is an ancient practice that has been proven. It encourages movement of the body in alignment with movement of the chi. Stress will no longer be a word that is combined with fear and negativity to those who regularly practice tai chi meditation. The study found TM techniques to have markedly better results in a wide range of criteria related to cognitive functions, self-actualization (growth toward ones potential), and mental and physical health. If youre a person that cannot sit still and deliberate on what causes your stress, Tai Chi Meditation will get you where you need to go. You are sending your chi or life force to all parts of your body through physical movement which leaves no room for stress. It is eliminated through practice of this method. What happened after you tried I was a bit tired however it did wonders for my back and I was really focused on the movement which leaves no room for you to think of anything else. It has its benefits and it is Based on the ancient Vedic tradition of India passed on for thousands of generations, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi introduced Transcendental meditation techniques which take about 20 minutes pre twice day, and are explained as simple, natural, and effortless. Unlike most techniques Transcendental does not carry a religions, philosophy or lifestyle and only involves sitting comfortably with your eyes closed. The site also mentions over six million people of all ages, cultures, and religions practice these techniques around the world. There have been over 600 research studies on the effects of the transcendental Meditation with positive results on health, mainly cardiovascular health also helping college students manage stress. Neural imaging and EEG studies indicate that TM practice creates a unique brain pattern: it is the only meditation technique known to create widespread brainwave coherence. The TM technique also produces deeper rest than other practices, and studies show the technique to be more effective at reducing anxiety and depression and increasing self-actualization. Vernon Barnes, Ph.D. Research scientist, Medical College of Georgia; lead researcher on cardiovascular studies funded by National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association. I will admit I am having a pretty a good considering the fact PSY/201 that I was giving a 0 an assignment. I have been upset for the most part of the day and unable to accept the grade I was giving however after allow my mind to relax for twenty 1. Do you think meditation leads to heightened sensation and perception? Explain why or why not. To some degree I believe it helps to rid your mind of unwanted thought while giving you a chance to consider things that may be affected you both positive and negative. I have never tried any form of mediation and I am shocked that it really eases the mind and can take you from an angry mindset to positive outlook in 20 minutes. This may have been the most rewarding experience I have had with my eyes closed and I may consider use this exercise on a regular basis. 2. Have you considered integrating meditation into your own lifestyle? If so, list one strategy for fitting meditation into your schedule. If not, explain why. As I mentioned this is my first time doing something like this and I will ensure you it will not be the time. Just off the top of my head I will try to get a session in maybe after breakfast so that I can begin my day with a clear mind focused on the tasks of the day and if possible after work to relax not only my mind but body as well and I think the 40 minutes of TM would be the best why for me to get some peace of mind and avoid me from being work related issues home for day to day.
