Explain the three stages of memory. How might understanding how our memory works help us learn? The three stages of memory are immediate memory, short-term memory, and long-term memory. immediate memory is not held for more than five to ten seconds, for instance would be like two individuals on the opposite side of street trying to talk. What the other person the right side of the street is saying, the individual on the left will not hear clearly therefore disregard all information. Short-term memory has the ability to remember items or objects for up to 15 or 20 seconds, before an individual starts to question him or herself about what was is the person needed on that shopping list the person left at home. With Long-term memory, a person can retrieve from personal memory passwords, thoughts, and perform daily tasks. Memory can assist a person learn and understand things clearly in the method of using flash cards, practicing and creation of new words with games such as scramble or boggle also reading books or novels. That keeps the brain and mind functioning without having a person stumbling for words or phrases.
